Just returned from a week at the Hovima Panorama. We booked half board and have to say the choice of food and cleanliness in the restaurant was great; the prices of drinks were very reasonably priced. Being able to substitute the evening meal and have a meal at lunch time instead if needed is a really good idea, and again the quality of food was top notch. The staff, from the servers in the restaurant, reception staff, cleaners, night-time security guard etc.. were always so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were lovely - my only criticism was the lack of plugs near mirrors and we also encountered a few cockroaches in the room over the week, which took us by surprise as the complex was immaculately clean and spotless. We're not sure how they got in as we never opened the patio doors or brought food back to the room. Before reading the rest on my review, I would like to reiterate that we did have a lovely holiday and the hotel is in a fabulous location with a short walk down to the beaches/marina or up to the shops. There are plenty of bars offering entertainment within a short walk and lovely restaurants nearby also. Although, with the food being lovely in the hotel, we only ate out the once. We had read on other reviews about people queueing to put towels on sun loungers and the mad rush at 9am to 'claim' loungers for the day. This was definitely the case. However, one morning, at about 8.35am, we came down for breakfast, the barriers were not across and there were already some towels down, so we popped ours down as well. We were shrieked at by one of the residents (who lives in the hotel complex) and told we were not allowed to do that - what a delightful woman she was and she clearly thought she owned the place! The residents seem to have their own 'area' and loungers and woe-betide any holiday maker who goes anywhere near! The thing is, as a holiday maker, you are there to rest and relax and are unaware of the hidden rules. We had also read that the life-guard would move any towels that were left unattended. However, one particular day, a couple of the residents put towels down at 9am, left them unattended all day, then came and collected their towels at about 2.30pm when they realised the weather wasn't really going to improve. This should be clamped down on. Overall, I'm sure the hotel needs the residents to survive, but it would be a much nicer place without them.
