We stayed at the hotel for two nights and it worked out brilliantly for us. It is right next to the ferry terminal at Craignure and was the ideal base for our travels around the island, which included climbing Ben More. The hotel is lovely, the staff very friendly and helpful. It is well run, they were in touch with us all the time to make sure everything was okay with our stay. We upgraded to a room with a sea view and so glad we did, with access to the Driftwood Spa facilities (including the hot tub) to help us recover after our climb and we were lucky enough (in April) to see beautiful sunrises over the water. The room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. The shower was great, hot and strong. We dined both nights in the Oran Na Mara restaurant and the food was delicious. The hake, chicken, steak and accompanying vegetables were all cooked to perfection. There was a wide choice of wines & spirits available both in restaurant and bar. The chilled prosecco was a particular favourite. The breakfast was excellent, with continental options from 7.00am and a hot cooked breakfast available from 7.30am. The staff in the restaurant & bar were really friendly, attentive and there was always someone on hand to make sure you were being looked after and enjoyed what you were having. The caramel logs, teacakes and bags of pretzels in our room went down well too with the tea / coffee facilities. The views over the water are naturally beautiful, there are walks down to the shore and a lot of creative thought has been put into them. While there was still a chill in the air in the evening, the hotel is set up to be a wonderful place to sit outside and enjoy long, hot summer nights. The staff in reception looked after us too, taking care of all aspects of our stay. In hindsight we should have spent one more night at the hotel, so we could have fitted in a trip over to Iona, but it gives us an excuse to come back. There are many passing places on the roads around Mull and we are so glad we did not pass this place. You can see it in the smiles of the staff, you can hear it when they say ‘you’re welcome’.
