The Westin St. John Resort Villas

This hotel is great because it’s the only hotel in the island, the grounds are beautiful, the pool is great, beach is awesome and rooms a spacious. But the customer service is TERRIBLE. I don’t think in our entire stay we encountered one pleasant person working at the hotel. It’s a good place to call home base while on the island and that’s about it.

Great spot, great views, updated villas. Service left a bit to be desired. Super slow for everything. Streaming services were down the whole trip and all we got was a “sorry”. Electricity went out for a while, but no one said anything. I would come back here for the location and ease, but not my favorite spot!

My room was not ready until 7p at a resort that strictly enforces a 10a checkout time and 4p check in time. There were tons of people around me in the same situation and they were given resort credit for the inconvenience, however I received nothing.

Had reservations but forced to cancel for urgent medical conditions. No break. All money taken

We are owners and this was our 5th trip. Normally stay in Bay Vista section but not available when we booked. 1st stay in Virgin Grand units that have a plunge pool/patio across the road from main resort. A 10 min walk to pool, water, reception. Staff are consistently going back and forth but was only offered a ride once during the 6 day stay! 😞 Units in this section are dated and need updating, but appliances were fairly new, worked well. Nice size kitchen and living room area. However not enough seating if you have more than 5 people. Same goes for private pool area - only 2 loungers?? Should have at least 4. Pool was a nice feature and very clean and refreshing. Perfect for large family or group as there are 2 more bedrooms upstairs with full bath. Unit was equipped with full size washer/dryer which is appropriate for potential number of guests. Upstairs seemed hotter and I would be concerned of A/C not cooling efficiently. We moved to Sunset Bay rooms for last night. Very nicely updated, clean and new. Outstanding location right on the water. 2 bedroom units were converted from hotel rooms to condos. Very nice, but no window for 2nd bedroom! Why? Only downside. Service was spotty. Reception/check-in desk was courteous and efficient. Got into room very close to 4 pm. 👍Told to visit Platinum Elite office for welcome packet etc. Important you do this as they do provide discount card for property and offsite restaurants and retailers. They provide "Sand Dollars" if you book your update. Just be careful to use them as you cannot apply to room charge. We were very happy they provided BEFORE we did update and not after as we were able to pay for dinner at a very nice place in town. Nice selection of what establishments will accept. 😊 Platinum Desk associate was less than enthusiastic and was basically just doing his job. Too bad as it is a first impression. Additionally, no praises to the supervisor that came to the room to inspect our disappointment in cigarette smell. Could have cared less, claimed they did not smell anything. Um, sorry but it was obvious. They did send someone to change the large room filter which he indicated was dirty. Said they would spray something but never did. It dissipated as week went on and we did put a sheet over the couch as it seemed the smell was worst sitting on it. The main pool area was very busy midday, so if you're not there early, you will be searching for shade or possibly a chair. Shout out to Odette, at the pool/towel desk. SHE is FABULOUS and knows what customer service is all about! Cheerful, enthusiastic and helpful. She is empowered to make decisions and took the time to walk around, say hello, and talk to guests. What a breath of fresh air. That is what you like to see as a guest. Everyone should emulate her behavior and attitude! We love it here but there is a great need for good and motivating leadership that takes accountability and supports the staff. A staff that is inspire

Awful experience from the moment we arrived. Don’t bother with the Westin shuttle service as it is unreliable and they just don’t care. The resort is dated, employees don’t care, and it is overpriced. There are many better options at the price point so seek a resort experience elsewhere!

We love St. John...we have loved The Westin for over 20 years. This is the first year our stay was disappointing. I am never one to complain...I'm the one finding the good and reviewing kindly. But this year, I absolutely cannot, and honestly, I feel like a baby even saying what I am about to say. Marriot has not done the Westin any favors. We are owners...the highest category one can get. Been owners for over 20 years. The last four years we have been relegated to bottom floor/no view and this year, in addition to that, we were in the handicap room. My husband and I are TALL and handicap rooms lower the counters! No more happy hour, no more water or assistance in the gym, over-crowded, snippy help, and critters in our unit! When we checked out, we had some leftover cash credit and THEY suggested...and talked to their managers...that we just forward the credit for when we came back in a couple of weeks. They said they put notes in their files...This was not our idea! When we came back with friends, they firmly said this wasn't happening...not our policy. The whole experience has left a bad taste in our mouths. We would love to sell some of our units, but that is not allowed. (This we figured through research, but got the solid answer on this trip...seems they should tell you that, up front.)

My biggest concerns while I'm traveling are cleanliness, noise level and coziness. This hotel was clean, quiet and cozy .The hotel food isn't great, and the staff isn't very friendly but it's a beautiful resort and probably best on the island. It is overpriced but that's island life, I guess.

Tired! We are owners of Vistana Westin and this is our third visit at a property that is desperate for a renovation. We thought this one was supposed to be updated after the 2017 hurricane. No luck! Also someone should tell you that most of the villas aren’t anywhere near the water. 1/2 mile walk uphill! We are in the Caribbean and feel like we are at a 1995 ski lodge with flaking tubs. Come on Marriott you gotta do better.
