Yunduan Nanshe Homestay (Dali Ancient City South Gate Branch)

This place was built for the looking good in photos only. We booked the room because of the bathtub which wasn’t even functional when we checked in, the drain stop didn’t work and the tub isn’t even attached to the ground. I notified the staff and all they did was give us a trash bag style sheet to put over the tub, not very luxurious at all. It also takes about 2 hours to fill the giant tub with lukewarm water. They claimed to have no other rooms to switch us to even though the exact same room type was available to book on trip. The views weren’t good either, basically all you can see is the parking lot and everyone around you can see straight into your room so every single room had their curtains closed the entire time. You can hear every single person who walks by outside and the walls are paper thin so you can hear the employees smoking and talking all night in the lobby. It’s not a horrible location but not very good considering you’d likely be booking it for the views and proximity to Dali ancient town, there just seem to be lots of better options available and the price performance was very poor compared to other hotels in the area. They also said they provide free pickup and drop off from the railway station but they only provide it once, not for both pick up and drop off. If you want both they will charge 100RMB for what is a 30RMB didi ride. Their breakfast window is only 1.5 hours and they shut it down the moment the clock strikes 10 if not earlier. The options were also pretty lacking compared to the dozen other hotels we’ve stayed in in China. The maids hardly cleaned at all, just made the bed and left new waters and towels, didn’t even pick up empty water bottles or anything. Overall we weren’t impressed at all with the accommodation for the price especially given the thousands of other cheaper and better options all around Dali. If you’re booking for the bathtub, DON’T bother. I find it very hard to believe they didn’t know the bathtub was faulty before we checked in, and being unwilling to meaningfully solve the problem was a major let down. The staff is more concerned with smoking in the lobby than anything else. The laundry room also doesn’t even have a dryer and it’s literally just 1 normal sized washing machine, no dryer whatsoever and they don’t have any sort of clothesline for you to even hang your clothes on to dry if you want. The room was also incredibly cold at night. Very poor price to quality radio with this one.

This is one of my favourite homestay in Dali. They are very helpful and kind . I have been requesting for quite a lot of help - collect parcel in behalf of me and they even do extra miles go to pickup my parcel. Save me extra supper, introducing nearby food to eat, culture sharing, they do provide for charter car service - but this will need to extra request. We booked for 2 nights and they give free pickup or drop off x1. They will text you a day before 💛. They have a very nice view for photos at their top floor. Food are simple yet light just perfect for us. Location wise is quite near roughly 5-7 minutes walk from hotel to Dali old town . Overall , 5/5

Nice to offer pick up service from the railway station as it was a distance away and allow us to know the exact location of the accommodation. It is conveniently near to the South gate of Dali ancient city, with a numbers of eating houses nearby. Friendly staff, offering dessert at night, and simple local breakfast. Even assist us to arrange for car pool to Lijiang. Nice view from the room.
