If you're in a river view room, honestly, there might be a bit of traffic noise, but the room itself is quite spacious, clean, and tidy, and the service attitude is pretty good. The price is also quite affordable.

For this trip, I chose Hilton Garden Inn for both Datong and Shuozhou, and I'm giving it a five-star rating. I'd never stayed at one before. I picked it after asking Doubao (an AI assistant) to suggest five four-star hotels as options, and then cross-referencing them on Ctrip. For a popular tourist city, a four-star hotel at just over 300 RMB is, in my opinion, excellent value for money. As a chain hotel, the service is professional and attentive, and the hotel's cleanliness and facilities are top-notch. The decor is more on the business-sleek side. While the breakfast selection of Chinese and Western dishes isn't incredibly diverse, it's more than sufficient to meet your needs, and there are even chefs making local snacks fresh on the spot. It definitely lives up to its price point. In short, for just over 300 RMB, this hotel is a solid choice. If I had to mention a downside, it's that both hotels are located on the outskirts of the city, a bit far from the ancient city center. A taxi ride costs about ten yuan. Also, there aren't any restaurants around the hotel, so those looking for nearby dining options might find it a bit inconvenient – that's why I gave the location a 4.5 out of 5. However, a hotel's location is really a matter of personal preference. I actually like it being slightly out of the way; it's quieter and avoids traffic jams. There was also a small incident: on the way to the hotel in Shuozhou in a ride-hailing car, the driver felt that our choice of Hilton Garden Inn was a bit pricey, suggesting that some business hotels in the city center offered better value. Since I hadn't compared them, I didn't offer an opinion. Overall, my standard for accommodations when I travel is four stars; anything else isn't an option for me.

It took about a 15-minute taxi ride to Datong Ancient City, and it's not too far from the high-speed train station. The room size was adequate, with a good three-zone wet/dry separation in the bathroom. The air conditioning didn't have a heating function, so it's best to bring your own long-sleeved pajamas. The room was very quiet, and the front desk service was good. Downsides: The facilities are a bit dated, for example, the TV couldn't screen mirror or play back content. There's room for improvement in both the variety and quality of the breakfast. However, it was nice that the breakfast menu had some variations each day, which is good for guests staying several consecutive nights.

Highly recommend! It's clean, hygienic, and the environment is great. The front desk staff are very nice, and parking downstairs is super convenient. If I come to Datong again, I will definitely choose this place without hesitation.

However, there were some noticeable drawbacks: the elevator was slow, leading to long waits, and the hotel is quite a distance from the ancient city and Huayan Temple, requiring a car for sightseeing. Additionally, the showerhead in the bathroom had poor water pressure, which needs improvement.
