Stayed for two nights on the 17th & 18th of May to attend a friend’s wedding at another near by venue. Nice looking building but grounds are taken up mostly for the golf course so not much to really explore, could do with some TLC and more inviting seating perhaps. I would love to have been able to read plaques or information about the history of the home and of the select ancient items that are there to see. We stayed in the Kent room and were told we were the first guests to use this room after it being very recently renovated, the size and layout was totally unexpected, and a pleasant surprise and the bedroom area felt very grande, it was very well decorated to match the character of the mansion whilst being tasteful and modern. The young woman who checked us in was also very friendly and welcoming. I am not sure if it was something to come given the fact it had only just been finished, but I would like to have seen a coffee table in front of the sofa within the lounge area to put your drink down on something other than the floor, a mini fridge in the kitchen area and a towel rail in the bathroom as there was no where to dry towels after showering. These little extra touches can really make a difference to the comfort of your stay. My only complaint is that the Peacock restaurant did not live up to the expectations I was given from reading about it on their website. The service was very vacant and did not feel comfortable. Simple things such as bringing water glasses whilst placing the bottle of sparkling water on the table, explaining the menu and order of service, welcoming us and checking in on us frequently to see if we would like any more drinks. Most of the time I had to go and find her to place an order for more drinks. There were only 3 tables in use including ourselves so it was not very busy but it felt a long time between visits by the lady operating service that evening, and just felt generally uncomfortable and annoying. The food was subpar and not what I was expecting, the menu had good offerings but it was poorly executed by the chef that evening and disappointing, especially with the prices being quite high I would have expected better. The background music was awful also and felt very dated and unpleasant. As much as I loved the room, I would not return for another stay due to the dining experience as I feel there are better places to stay that have an overall better experience all round.
