As a motel, it is quite good, especially with a washer-dryer, which is really friendly for self-driving travelers. The restaurant was newly renovated and was good, but one male waiter had a bad attitude and was impatient when taking orders, so we didn't eat in the hotel restaurant.

This is really a very basic one night stop over place to stay. The staff seem to try hard but it’s the many little things that let the whole experience down. We were given a room - we had paid for it some 2 months prior - paid when booked. The check in procedure took 15 minutes as all seemed to be dis coordinated at reception. Our room was let’s say interesting. The pillows had black hairs on them allegedly from the cleaner but BOTH PILLOWS. So we were given a complimentary drink and another room. There is a lot in these rooms, kettle, microwave, cook top, washing machine, toaster. The bed is a very basic alleged queen size that shakes and rolls when you turn over. There is secure parking and it was noted there were a lot of contract workers staying in small units at the front. The tv reception in the rooms is really non existent and staff acknowledged that this was the case. ABC was all you got. The wifi was good though. The food in the restaurant- there is nowhere else to eat close by - is good but so expensive as is the alcohol. We wanted poached eggs on muffins instead of on sour dough for breakfast and they charged us another $3.00 per meal for the muffins. The guy who appeared to be running the whole show was accommodating and quite nice and surely did not deserve to be in charge of a place like this. We could not wait to leave.

Staff were very friendly but unfortunately the rooms weren't the best, management didn't want to know about problems and we were charged for extras even after i was told i could have the extras months before the visit without any mention of extra charges. They did give a discount on usual rate apparently but still not happy. There are limited places to stay in town so I'm guessing this is how they stay in business

Do yourself a favor an overnight in your car. That such hotels still exist. Simply outrageous!!! Room booked for three people. Okay it is a budget hotel but a little respect is to be expected. - No towels in the room. To the reception there very surprised and finally set it right. - The wi-fi is not working. To reception again and there the explanation was that it was not working due to heavy rain but that everything would be fine by 6:00pm. Of course at 6:00 pm the wi-fi is still not working and the reception is closed. In the restaurant and bar the staff members couldn't help us. - No lights in the hall to the room. Would be on a timer, peculiar because in another hall the light is on. - Discarded washing machines are simply set down in the hall. - About the kitchen we will certainly say nothing. More than mediocre and very noisy restaurant. - And icing on the cake: cockroaches all you want. Hopefully none slipped into our luggage. Conclusion: if I could give a rating below zero, I would not hesitate.

The wifi never worked. We were so cold in the bedroom and there was no extra dunna in the cupboard. The coffee machine was broken, and overall the food was overprice for the quality.

Good pub at the hotel and friendly locals willing to share a good chat. The thai curry could be the best thai curry I have had in Australia

There is little to detain even the most inquisitive traveller at Derby which is the frontier settlement at the western end of the Gibb River Road so a night is as much as you’re likely to spend here and the Spinifex is up to the task. The good: our guest room (one queen + one single bed) was clean, spacious, relatively quiet and reasonably comfortable. Everything expected was there and it all worked as expected. The beds were comfortable, the linens clean and were each able to find a pillow we liked. The bathroom was of adequate size and the plumbing mostly worked OK. The included Wifi worked well on all our devices. Meals taken in the main hotel were wholesome and tasty and the service staff were efficient and attentive. The not so good: the Spinifex assuredly offers Derby’s premium lodgings, but they are still more serviceable than desirable. Architecturally speaking, the guest rooms have more in common with a shipping container than traditional hotel or motel rooms and the décor could best be described as spartan. The hot water from the shower in our room suffered from some unpredictable and uncomfortable temperature fluctuations if used during the evening or morning rush hours and the bathroom lighting was adequate for everything except shaving or, I assume, making up.

Nice pub but as far as accommodation goes it's not quite a 2 star. After walking through workers dongas we finally found our room.Horrible bed with a mattress that had seen better days as had the pillows. Winter sheets instead of nice crisp white linen, filthy carpet and blinds that looked like a child had been climbing on. Meals quite nice and the beer was cold but find somewhere else to stay.
