Grounds The hotel is made up of many smaller-format buildings without elevators. So if you need an accessible room, make sure to ask for the first floor. There are no animals roaming the grounds. Rooms The rooms are large and renovated. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The walk-in shower had good water temperature and pressure. But it had no door, which many hotels are now doing, so the floor was always wet. Just put a towel. Be careful with the cleaning - they use very strong chemicals which leaves the room smelling the entire vacation. But many Caribbean resorts do this. Rooms are cleaned twice - once during the day and a second time at 9pm, when guests are presumably at dinner. Service This was the worst aspect of our stay. The staff sound like you can have your Dreams in this vacation, but it's a front. The worst of it are the golf carts. THE STAFF DRIVE RECKLESSLY. There is another section of the resort which is located across the street from the main entrance. It is a far walk to the restaurants and beach so Dreams provides golf cart transportation back and forth. The golf carts are driven fast through pedestrian walkway. THE STAFF DO NOT SLOW DOWN FOR WALKING GUESTS, they just beep the horn and expect guests to jump out of the way. This is extremely dangerous for a family resort. I had to grab my child and JUMP OUT OF THE WAY several times while being beeped at or risk being side-swiped with a mirror. For this reason, WE ARE NEVER GOING TO STAY HERE AGAIN. Other service issues: trouble with accessing the courtesy room for a late check-out; the staff calling 3 times per day starting at 8am to see if we needed anything. Guests are on vacation and might be sleeping, right? Food The buffet fare is standard All-Inclusive. The a-la-carte restaurants are first-come first serve but that can mean a 40-minute wait. The waiters had trouble understanding orders in English but it was not a big deal. Note that the French adults-only restaurant actually enforces the dress code - which is fine, I just have not seen that in other resorts. Pool & Beach There are multiple pools, with the main pool by the restaurant area. The pools do not have slides for kids. There are also not enough loungers by the main pool, especially with shade. La Romana has some of the calmest beaches in the DR and does not have sea****, which was the reason for our stay. There are fish in the water and pelicans diving in to catch them, which was fun to watch. Unfortunately the shade on the beach is really lacking here for guests who do not pay extra for the preferred area. There are plenty of loungers by the beach, but only some have shade. The umbrellas themselves are also shallow (not like tall palapas covers) and so do not provide enough shade. Points off for that.
