Loved Donegal

I had an event booked with the central hotel in the ballroom for 70people. The day before, I was called to say I would only be getting half the ballroom, there was a partition down the middle. Upon arrival I realised we had been double booked there was an event on in the other half of the ballroom. As a guest attempted to order a drink, they were told that management informed them not to serve alcohol, I had spoken on the phone that morning about the bar being open to presumably the manager, Alvin. Then the manager took me out of the ballroom to discuss the issue and said he never told the barstaff that. After the meal we had a DJ booked, which I had emailed a lovely staff member called Shouna about multiple times, aswell as spoke to a women on the phone and was given the go ahead and was told the bar would serve until late. Multiple times throughout the night the manager, Alvin, spoke rudely to guests telling them to come inside from the smoking area. Then at 11:20 I was asked to follow him intot he hall, where he told me guests had been complaining about the music(which he knew about the whole time) and he had asked the DJ to turn it down, upon speaking to the DJ I learnt he asked once and then music was as low as the speakers would allow. Alvin would not listen to this at all. I am appalled by this decision as I had been repeatedly told that a Dj would not be an issue, and what did the hotel expect from the noise, im sure this isn’t the first event with music held in this hotel before. At 11:30 Alvin demanded the DJ turn off all music, and then proceeded to get both barstaff and security to force everyone to leave. Guests who had ordered and paid for drinks were not given them, and not offered a refund. Another guest during the night was upcharged €8.70 for a drink that cost €5 from all other staff. On a positive note the food was rather nice, but the experience on a whole was shocking. I can safely say I doubt I or any of my guests will be returning to the central again. I have not been offered any kind of a refund or compensation for the early cut off, quite disappointed.

Welcoming and helpful staff. Bed and room fine and lovely buffet style continental and freshly cooked Irish breakfast served until 10 am. Great location in the centre of Donegal. Luckily found parking on the 'diamond' outside the hotel both times we needed it - 50 cents an hour between 9 am and 6 pm, free overnight. Car park within 5 minute walk - didn't use so don't know charges. Great location for exploring the town and wider Donegal area. 70 minute boat trip possible from the quay 5 minute walk away. Recommend the Harbour restaurant just 3 minutes walk from hotel towards the quay.

Very Convenient location to All the excitement in area! Convenient car parking close by. No AC in any of the rooms , although was furnished with a small fan to help cool off rooms. We stayed 3 nights, was unhappy with our room on 1st night (view was a concrete wall) We felt like we were in a dungeon! Requested a different room next night and was given a bigger nicer room overlooking the “Diamond”. When we were there Donegal GAA football team won the championship , So lots of excitement everywhere! Fun!

Pool hours should be longer in the evening for kids.

Really enjoyed our stay. Swimming pool fantastic. Hotel has been refurbished so was pleasantly surprised. Some staff lovely others just ok. But we will return

Stayed at this hotel lots of times over the past few years and was happy to return. Martin went out of his way to get us a suitable family suite which was brilliant. Was great having the pool to use on a wet day. The hotel room was lovely and warm and the dining rooms were comfortable and inviting. Staff were really accommodating and dealt with any queries efficiently and to our satisfaction. The hotel is in a busy small town and close to Fintra Bay and Slieve League cliffs which are spectacular. Would highly recommend a break at the Central Hotel for its homeliness and its locality.

This was our second time staying in this hotel and unfortunately my sister and I were disappointed this time around. We were woken up at 5am with a banging noise that was ongoing for hours. Breakfast was so disappointing and not in the same room as it was the last time we visited. The bread to toast was stale, food looked like it was sitting out for days and options were limited. Reception staff were friendly and the room was nice and clean but the other aspects let it down and I don’t think we will be returning.

Great location ... Delicious food ... Refurbished rooms with lovely ensuite shower rooms ... Very helpful and accommodating staff in every part of the hotel. We went as part of a Line Dancing event and, even though a large party (over 100) we were well looked after.
