InterContinental Sydney Double Bay, an IHG Hotel

For many years we have worked closely alongside Intercontinental in Double Bay, particularly to hold events for our team. Whilst hosting such events, our team utilised the hotel’s breakfast and rooftop bars. These bars offer a unique perspective of Sydney’s coastal line, with outstanding views, enhanced by their winery and cocktail lists. Additionally, in prior years, our Head Office was located in Double Bay, and we found ourselves visiting the hotel frequently to work from the rooftop, especially in the warmer weather. From beautiful views, light tunes in the background, and exceptional lunch menus to their impeccable service from staff and world-class amenities, Intercontinental Double Bay offers guests a luxurious haven and one of the best office locations in all of Sydney.

Disliked that my pets were restricted to our room only

We now call this our home in Sydney. We’ve stayed multiple times since early 2023 and loved every night. Following a booking mix up last week the General Manager Ben, and Lisa who manages the reception team, have been extremely kind, sorting out the problem graciously and generously. Tonight we are enjoying a bayside room, champagne and chocolates, that we are enjoying with a warm feeling of being looked after as loyal guests where our needs are known and looked after, which makes travelling so much better and enjoyable, returning us home refreshed and looking forward to staying again in July.

When I checked in the guy at the desk made a loud comment about the fact that I booked through an agent and therefore I was getting room 211. Not sure why that was necessary. I was planning to go to my room, order food and work the afternoon away. The room across from mine was getting maintenance work done, loudly. I wasn’t warned at all, the painter/builder was lovely and very apologetic. I wanted to grab the menu for in room ordering and it was so dirty and sticky all the pages were stuck together. I took it to the front desk asking to please have another one sent to my room as it put me off and I decided to go for a walk. When returned there was no sign of a new menu so I called to ask for it again. The girl on the phone proceeded to tell me I can just check it ok the tv, quite rudely and I asked If I can just please get another copy. It arrived within maybe one hour. It was greasy too but openable! I have photos of both.. I barely had anyone ever greeting me or smiling which was very sad for this kind of hotel. At check out I got asked how was the experience and I explained how disappointed I was for the money I spent. Amar (manager on duty) was really nice and sorry for my experience, and waved the breakfast fee. Although I appreciated it this was a terrible experience for a room just under $400 a night and in the future I will stay clear from booking my hotels via this platform and this chain of hotels.

The room was beautiful and spacious with balcony looking over double bay waterfront. It is centrally located in DB - easy walk to the ferry wharf and all the restaurants/cafes/shoreline. The staff were all very friendly and helpful throughout the property (especially concierge and the cleaners). The bathroom was large but was disappointed in how small the bathtub was (it wasn't inviting in the least, and I live for having a bath when we treat ourselves to a luxury hotel). We were also given a twin-bedded room which was a waste of space and also didn't make it feel like they truly acknowledged we were there for a special occasion (I had to advise at time of check in it was our wedding anniversary). They need more signage from the parking lot on how to get to the hotel (as the elevator does not automatically connect to the hotel entrance). The bar is a very cool hangout to grab a drink or light meal. It has an elusive and exclusive feel to it - the manager there was very nice. The poolside whilst lovely views, has limited deck chairs and the pool in itself can only fit a few people comfortably before you feel like you're invading each other's space. The biggest downer was the fire alarm going off on our last night. It sounded faint at the first part so didn't think it applied to us, but when it did start on our level no advice on if it were a test or something was really wrong. There was no staff announcement or call to our room so on ere of caution we decided to go down the fire escape alongside a few other guests that were just as confused as us. By the time we got out the back and then walked around to the front of the hotel the firemen were leaving and hotel staff barely acknowledged the inconvenience or if it were a false alarm. Whilst I am an avid IHG One ambassador, I did have higher expectations to be looked after much better during this stay. We have received better gestures of goodwill to more minuscule incidents when staying at sister properties than what we did on this occasion, so I can't say we will consider this property again in the future.
