Farmhouse Inn

Hotel was good with nice clean basic room Television and tea coffee making in room Beds clean and comfortable and nice friendly staff

We booked this one night stay in a double room in June so we could stay over for concerts at Audley end. When we went to check in another guest was being told they don’t have a room for him despite him having a confirmed booking. After the guest explained they needed to be at the concert for 3pm, the receptionist quickly gave him a room, mistakenly thinking he was performing in the concert. We then tried to book in, and again, our booking could not be found. Over the course of the next two hours I showed my booking several times to the receptionist, landlady and then the landlord. I contacted ********** who confirmed my booking and they then contacted the hotel three times to find out what the problem was. Each time ended with the phone being put down and another rant front the landlord who “couldn’t understand what he was saying because he was a foreigner”. By this stage the landlord had told me that he doesn’t even have a contract with ********** so I can’t have a booking, that all rooms were booked by a single group six months ago so they couldn’t possibly have accepted my booking three months ago and that I could have a twin room as that’s all they had left but I would need to pay the new higher price in cash. The receptionist was clearly out of her depth and the landlady, who was very nice, was clearly incompetent, shouting her catchphrase “I don’t do computers” over and over at the receptionist. The landlord however was just a rude, aggressive, nasty piece of work.

Expensive with miserable breakfast

I found the Farmhouse Inn perfect for a stay whilst working away. Rooms perfectly suitable with everything that was needed for a night or two. Staff very friendly and food home cooked. Would definitely stay again.

Needed a place to stay at short notice having arrived to Stansted Airport before an onward journey to London. Arrived to the Farmhouse Inn to be greeted by a rude landlady who did not make us feel very welcome. Shown to room talk about a time warp very dated 1970's decor. Felt awkward about going to the bar resturant for some food and drinks so decided just to stay in the room. Could not wait to leave.

Great place to stay. Lovely food and very relaxing the owner is very welcoming and my wife and I really enjoyed our stay. Will be returning for a short break later in the year . Setting is stunning Essex countryside and the hotel has a nice relaxing atmosphere

Stayed here at last minute as we needed a flight early hrs of the morning was welcomed by Ed and shown around and was greeted by the the family who own and run this fantastic Inn we was in need of alot of help with booking onto our flights with covid paperwork and they helped us enormously with printing out test certificates and vouchers and fed us really well and kept us well watered with alcohol at a really reasonable price and to top of a great night one of the locals called Robin gave us a lift to the airport at 4 in the morning thank you all once again for your help will definitely call in again xx

I read a review on here from Jan 2016. Nothing has changed. Shared a room with my young son on a weekend road trip around North Essex / Cambridgeshire. The TV did not work (US Open Women's Tennis Final). The shower did not work, at all. The beds were so hard I could barely sleep from 2am onwards. Breakfast was 'extra', on a £80 a night room which has probably not seen any upgrade for over ten years. I have no idea how 70% of reviewers have rated this place either 'very good' or 'excellent'. I am incredulous at that. Really this place is in desperate need of an upgrade and has little to commend it except perhaps cold beer and the fact that Stansted Airport is 20 mins away. If B&B for two in our room comes out at £100 (which it did) I really despair at where we are going in this country. Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.
