Stayed for one night with my sister Rooms were lovely clean homely and beautifully decorated We spent most of the after noon sampling some lovely wines then had a wonderful evening meal pub is very well decorated with a very comfortable sofa area next to the open fire Seems a very popular place as was busy Staff were friendly and welcoming Will definitely be returning

Booked through *********** and for my punishment for not booking direct with the establishment was allocated bedroom 3. The bed was a cheap normal double with no comfort whatsoever plus the room had the benefit of listening to the central heating system all night. Perhaps management should test what was provided.

Went for lunch today this was not our first visit was so disappointed with my meal the belly pork had a slimy skin on top inside a big piece of bone overcooked potatoes and greens were cold did not complain as there was only one young lady serving and she was rushed off her feet I expected more from this pub

Stayed for one night. The food is very good; staff is helpful and friendly; the ambiance and atmosphere is really nice; comfortable room; everything was great and I would recommend this lovely place for food and sleep.

We took a friend for lunch. Padron peppers for starters- lovely. Lamb pitta, tortellini, and a steak ordered for mains, both meat dishes were excellent, melted in the mouth and tasty. Pasta was a delight to the eyes Couldn’t fault the food or service from Sophie Shared the plum tart with cream sooo nice, Spent a lovely afternoon there, will be back again

Wonderful atmosphere, friendly folks, outstanding food. We hadn’t planned where to eat and just happened up on the wonderful place. Usually that doesn’t work out well but this time we hit the jackpot. They even gave us information where we could buy reading glasses. The staff just went above and beyond the expected.

Arrived at The Cricketers on Friday 7th July after a very challenging local walk (it was a hot day) My wife was not feeling too good from heat exhaustion. Matt who served us our initial drinks noticed this and offered plenty of cold water including ice cubes in a tea towel to help. It did the job! (He also revealed, that he was a paramedic so he knew what to do to help relieve the condition) Needless to say we were very well looked after. The food we ordered was delivered promptly and was outstanding in quality and taste, as well as being very good value. We have no hesitation in recommending this pub, which has very recently changed hands. We enjoyed our experience so much that we have booked an overnight stay (they also do bed and breakfast) for another visit to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Many thanks again to Matt and Huw who really went the extra mile to ensure we had the very best possible visit to their excellent pub.
