Great self contained room with a fridge and breakfast left in the room, cereals, yoghurt etc. Good food in the pub but not the cheapest.

I've lived in East Malling for just over 20 years and have been visiting the King & Queen on a regular basis. Its known that the kitchen space is small and restricts what can and cannot be produced - the previous landlord tried hard to produce 'restaurant' food and it didn't always pay off. With lock down lifted, myself and several friends headed down for an evening of food, wine and company. The service was friendly and very polite. Absolutely the staff tried hard. The pub itself as anyone knows is a gorgeous old building in the heart of the village. BUT .. the food. 6 of us had 6 different meals. Each was the supermarket ready meal version of pub food. Perhaps a very small menu of freshly prepared food suited to the known small kitchen size? I would point to the Rod & Line in Cornwall who have an even smaller kitchen but turn out amazing food - do less but do it better. I had the pulled pork burger which came with a brioche bun (I think!) which tasted like it was straight out of the co-op's sale bin and the pork which was overly sauced. The mini sausage and bacon advertised was missing. Just not very pleasant at all for the price of just under £15! There was no wine list. Apparently it hadn't 'arrived yet'. Wouldn't you hand write a version or print off something temporary? On asking what 'fizz' was available we were told there was Prosecco and that it was Italian .....!!! So end of lovely old pub, great location, good parking and friendly staff. But not a food mecca and expensive for what it is. I'm so disappointed on my review. This is my local pub and I so want it to be fabulous.

The lovely licensee Kim took a wasp sting for her guest (me) declaring "It's nothing I'll just rub some vinegar on it." Lol. Becs, the manager was equally kind, helpful & professionally minded as were the staff. I stayed for 2 days in their converted barn which was clean & fresh. Having met my sis we thoroughly enjoyed the homemade chicken & leek pie prepared & cooked by chef Tony. It would be difficult to praise The King & Queen enough. Thanks to all! Tony Guy

Such a lovely find in a quaint peaceful village setting. Bargain at the price paid. Enough to eat for breakfast. Clean room with everything we needed for overnight stay. Had a lovely dinner in the pub. Were made to feel very welcome. Would recommend.

A really amazing traditional pub with a few rooms at the back. Rooms are spotless, decent size with everything you need provided. Staff really friendly and helpful. Can’t wait till I’m back in the area to stay again. Highly recommended.

Check in was slow, not sure all the staff knew what to do. We thought our booking was not there, seemed in question but all was ok. Room was clean and tidy, no problems, breakfast was a basket of cereals and fruit, milk was also in fridge in room. Would have prefered cooked breakfast for £100 a night. Biggest dissapoin**ent was the mattress which was very soft and moved all over the place if you moved, needs a decent matress. Overall could be better, little things, staff traing etc but a better matress would make big difference
