Such a nice place with nice people. Stayed at the lodge. Have stayed here previously but this is the first time where water was high enough for boats and pontoons. Lovely room overlooking lake. Dinner of steak and cheeseburger was great and breakfast was great. Only nagging issue is the lighting over the bathroom sink that is never bright enough and sink is separate from toilet/shower. Other than that, highly recommend.

We love Tygart Lake State Park. This was our 3rd time visiting. We rented a 2 person cabin with a lake view. The cabin was wonderful and the view was amazing. We rented a pontoon boat from the marina for a whole day. It was so much fun, the lake is gorgeous and clean. We can’t wait to go back.

We spent a couple of days here over Independence Day. The park is just outside Grafton, West Virginia. The main attraction is the beautiful 10-mile long, 1,750-acre lake. If you enjoy being on the water, this is a great place to go. There’s plenty of room for boating, fishing, and swimming, and they have a relatively new water adventure park that looked really cool. (Unfortunately, there’s no free beach to swim at now, it was replaced by the water park which you have to pay to go to.) You can rent boats and kayaks and such at the marina. The lake is so popular that the large marina parking lot fills up quickly and they have several overflow parking lots. We had to park a half mile away. They do have a courtesy van that will come get you if you need it at least. We stayed at the lodge but there are also cabins and a campground. The lodge has 20 rooms, all of which have sliding glass doors and a view of the lake. Most have small decks with privacy fences between them. Ours (#4) was the only one I saw that didn’t have a deck, due to its location right next to the lodge. If we go back I’ll ask for a different room. But at least we only had people on one side of us. They had two chairs outside the back and there were two benches under a tree not far from our back door, and other seating areas including a gazebo close by. The lodge was built in 1964, but the rooms have been remodeled and updated. The room was clean and comfortable. It’s a short walk to the main part of the lodge, where they have a deck with seating, an indoor lounge area, and a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The food was pretty good, service was so-so but like most places it looked like they were short handed. On the 4th we took a 2 hour “historical cruise” around the lake where our hostess told us the history of the lake and dam, pointed out things of interest, and told us stories of people from the area. It was interesting and very pleasant, definitely worth doing. Especially if like us you don’t have a boat or other way to enjoy the water.

First time to this state park, and we will be back. We stayed at one of the two-person "year round" cabins and it was excellent. The cabins have recently been refreshed, so all the furniture was in good shape, the bed was very comfortable, and overall it was the best-equipped state park cabin we've ever stayed in - the kitchen had everything you might need, and there was even a lantern tucked into the supply closet. The lake and forest views from the expansive deck were excellent. Since we came in March, the lake itself was drawn down to winter pool level. Still fun to walk down to, but watch out for muddy patches and slick spots. We hiked one trail, the School Bus Loop at the campground area, and it was a lot of fun. Fairly level, well marked, good views and, yes, an old 1940s school bus (how it got there is a mystery). We had one meal at the lodge restaurant and it was very good. Service was quick and attentive and the food was tasty and filling. Even with the low water, the lakeside views were great. Since you're in the area anyway, be sure to check out downtown Grafton, lots of cute little shops, interesting architecture, and good restaurants. A few final notes on the cabins - the wifi worked great, if that's your thing, and there will be ladybird beetles and stink bugs inside. You're in the middle of the forest in the middle of the mountains - sweep them up, toss them out the back door, and enjoy your stay.

I took my 7 and 11 year old sons to Tygart Adventures Water Park on the lake. We had an awesome time. We did a 4 hour session, and it was plenty enough time. We all were very tired from climbing all over the inflatable obstacles. We have been to the lake on boats dozens of times, but this new water park is perfect for the lake. The only improvements I can think of is that they need more sand down to the water because there are alot of rocks to walk over. A portable concession stand closer to the water would be an improvement also. Overall this was a great day for me and the kids. We will be back very soon.
