This is a standard tourist class hotel similar to Novotel, which is next door. Seven minutes to Grassmarket, ten to Victoria Street, 15 to the castle, 20 to Waverly Station. Nice shower and larger, very comfortable rooms. Near the U, and there is a great pub close by, Cloisters, which draws people from there. Also a good Italian restaurant down the street and Greek near the pub. The old city does not have many hotels and this is a good place.

We always expect a comfy bed and clean room that’s why we use Premier Inns, however the carpet was a bit grubby, stain on mattress protector but our top gripe was after 20 minutes the signal to the tv broke up. This happened every day/night during our stay. Plus side very well situated with short walks to amenities.

We stayed in this Premier Inn for 5 days over a weekend in April. This hotel is very well situated and busy as you would expect with lots of guests arriving and leaving on a daily basis. The staff are universally pleasant and our room was quiet and warm. Some of the commmon areas were showing signs of wear with worn carpets etc but our room (404) was as clean etc as on other visits to hotels in this chain. The corridor on our floor had a terrible , possibly damp , smell for all of our stay. I visited the floor below ,were friends were staying, and found the same but not as pronounced odour. It really was a case of holding your breath and rushing between the lift and our room to prevent feeling sick. All in all a very pleasant stay in a well priced and very central Edinburgh Hotel with a horrible stink in some of the commom areas

Always appeared short staff with queue to speak to reception which we had to do a lot. Heating controllers in the rooms don’t work so have to ask reception to turn it on every time you go out, no towels we had to ask, No one emptied our bin or topped up coffees for our 4 day stay, lift not working without queuing at reception. The worst premier inn we’ve stayed at I’m afraid .

The room was clean but a huge hole behind the door and lots of marks on the walls. The bed was comfortable, but you had to request a clean and towels. Neither of the lifts were working from the lobby either and had to ask staff members to call them for you. On multiple occasions no staff were at the desk. Impossible to get an evening reservation at a convenient time, we were turned away even though there was only one table dining. Breakfast was also a nightmare. All but 2 dishes of hot food ran out, waited for over 10 mins for an egg, sausages and beans which never came so left still hungry. We ordered chicken curry the first night which was cold. Some members of staff were quite rude and seemed like anything you asked for was a chore. We usually always book a premier inn as you know what to expect - obviously not luxury but clean, comfortable and food is normally a decent standard. This is by far the worst premier inn we have stayed at.
