On Monday 11 Dec'23, We checked into this hotel for a one night stay. We wouldn't normally book somewhere that's on a "room only" basis but it's location sounded ideal for us for the shops/Christmas Market. Ob arrival, We were unable to gain access into the property, We rang the telephone in the porch way, which kept going to voicemail, after a good few rings on the doorbell, a young lady came & answered. She told us she was there cleaning the rooms & gave us the Key to Room 4 It might have only been a 1 night stay but room 4 wasn't good. A box room with sloping walls, bed right up against the window sill & it felt very claustrophobic. We spoke to the cleaner who said the owners were away on holiday so she would mention it to Matthew who was looking after the hotel for a week. He rang us at 230pm whilst we were out & said we could move to room 2. We returned to move rooms, room 2 was a family room with a double & single bed in it. Much bigger room, felt better, however, that's where the improvement ended sadly. I have read on the reviews that this hotel is due a refurbishment next month which it definitely needs however, on cleanliness it's not to standard. Our bathroom hadn't been cleaned very well, the shower floor was dirty so we didn't use it. On making a cup of tea yesterday morning, I noticed the cups hadn't been cleaned properly so I scolded them under the hot tap. I honestly feel £90+ for room only at this establishment is very overpriced, maybe once its upgraded it will be justified but for now, I'm afraid not & the level of cleanliness certainly needs addressing.

The hotel is ideally located near to the city centre, with many pubs, restaurants, shops and attractions nearby. Our room was ideal for a weekend break, and had everything we needed. We were made to feel welcome from when we arrived.

This is a lovely little hotel in the centre of Edinburgh. The room had everything we needed, very spacious, nice tea and coffee. The small car park at the rear is extremely handy! Parking in Edinburgh is a nightmare, so it made the visit a lot easier. Hosts were great, very helpful and friendly. When I am next in Edinburgh, I will be staying here again.

I only spent one night there. The location is very convenient for the town centre, and the hotel offers free parking. Parking is expensive elsewhere. The hotel is clean and the welcome friendly. From there you can explore the Georgian New Town.

The room was lovely, the location was convenient, and the hosts were wonderful! We were delayed unexpectedly for one night and they graciously allowed us to shorten our stay without charging us. Thanks a million!

Booked via ***********, not long after I booked the messages started to ensure that our start was the best that it could be, from arriving on the Wednesday, Freddie was there to greet us, and we saw Fiona a few times during our stay who made sure everything was going well and if we needed anything. The rooms have everything you need and you can ask for anything should you need more or you've forgotten anything, they are book good for recommendations and they supply contact numbers should you need them at short notice. Great location, great service and parking on site is an added bonus also! Highly recommend!

This is an old building that unfortunately, is certainly starting to show it age, and as such needs updating and renovating in some areas. In particular, the windows, bathroom and carpets have seen better days and are in desperate need of attention/updating. That being said, the property is in a fantastic location and only a short distance from a lot of major attractions and some fabulous bars and restaurants and has the added bonus, of its own parking area at the rear. The room we had (Room 3) was comfortable, cleaned daily and had a ready supply of coffee, tea, milk etc. Please remember the property does not provide breakfast. The owners, Freddie and Fiona were very welcoming and helpful with advice on local area and things to do and if it had not been for Fiona suggesting we stop off at the Kelpes on our way to Glasgow we may have missed visiting such an amazing spectacle. All in all, despite the awful weather for the first two days we had a fabulous time in Edinburgh, but without some major updating to the property we would probably choose a better standard hotel, that also offered breakfast as part of the deal if we returned.

Lovely family run local hotel situated in a quiet location. I loved my stay here and felt completely safe as a solo female traveller. Super clean room, hot power shower, fluffy bath mat, soft towels, comfy bedding, tea, coffee and biscuits provided. Great location as you’re walking distance to all major tourist attractions. 3 minute walk to the tram stop if you’re coming from the airport. Within walking distance you have lots of nice local restaurants and bars to try out. I only met Fiona but she was super lovely and friendly. Highly recommend and will definitely return. Thank you

My experience is slightly unusual in that I haven't actually stayed at the Broughton. Yet. Freak weather conditions in my part of Sotland meant I had to cancel my trip to Edinburgh - and my booking, well after the cancellation cut-off time. The response to my notification was so friendly, understanding and generous that I won't be looking to stay anywhere else when I plan my postponed visit.
