On Monday 11 Dec'23, We checked into this hotel for a one night stay. We wouldn't normally book somewhere that's on a "room only" basis but it's location sounded ideal for us for the shops/Christmas Market. Ob arrival, We were unable to gain access into the property, We rang the telephone in the porch way, which kept going to voicemail, after a good few rings on the doorbell, a young lady came & answered. She told us she was there cleaning the rooms & gave us the Key to Room 4 It might have only been a 1 night stay but room 4 wasn't good. A box room with sloping walls, bed right up against the window sill & it felt very claustrophobic. We spoke to the cleaner who said the owners were away on holiday so she would mention it to Matthew who was looking after the hotel for a week. He rang us at 230pm whilst we were out & said we could move to room 2. We returned to move rooms, room 2 was a family room with a double & single bed in it. Much bigger room, felt better, however, that's where the improvement ended sadly. I have read on the reviews that this hotel is due a refurbishment next month which it definitely needs however, on cleanliness it's not to standard. Our bathroom hadn't been cleaned very well, the shower floor was dirty so we didn't use it. On making a cup of tea yesterday morning, I noticed the cups hadn't been cleaned properly so I scolded them under the hot tap. I honestly feel £90+ for room only at this establishment is very overpriced, maybe once its upgraded it will be justified but for now, I'm afraid not & the level of cleanliness certainly needs addressing.
