Amazing location but a shame about so many stairs and no lift

Rented this apartment downtown Edinburgh near The train station right between Old and New Edinburgh. Nice location, central to buses, train and tram. Note there are a lot of stairs and no elevator. Not suitable for those with mobility challenges or anyone carrying a lot of luggage. The apartment is clean and bright, nice decor and stocked with everything you need to be self sufficient except laundry. Very busy street with a lot of noise. The building is old so lots of noise inside too. You can hear your neighbours coming and going easily. Overall this is a nice place but loud and difficult to get to if your room is on the 2nd or 3rd floor.

Just returned from a week at the Destiny apartments along Hanover street. Booked the superior apartment with castle view, which is located on the top floor and does have a lot of steps up to it, this was to be expected and it is documented everywhere that there is no lift. The apartment was tidy and clean however there were a few things that let it down. The windows were filthy, when you have such a nice view of the city, you would expect to be able to see out of the windows! The bathroom hasn’t had much thought into it. You have to turn the tap to full in order to get the water to run warm, which means the water sprays everywhere. The rain full shower head sprays out over the top of the shower cubicle and floods the bathroom! The sink doesn’t look like it is finished as there is half the basin missing. The kitchen is missing a few vital things, you have an oven however no oven trays, or dishes that allow you to cook in the oven! Which did ruin our plans as wasn’t able to cook. The bed was horrendous, springs sticking out and extremely noisy when rolling over in the night. The view was amazing as is the location, however there could have been more attention to detail when spending so much money!

Great location BUT….when it said that it was a first floor apartment with no lift that is all good BUT they don’t tell you there are 49 stairs up a steep spiral staircase and then you have 9 stairs down to the apartment. The parking is sort of a joke. We ended up paying way too much to keep our car on the street nearby, just moved it up or down the block a bit and made sure the time did not run out on RingGo. The train station was a bit to far for our age to drag our suitcases. There should have been someway to be able to use, as stated in their website, parking for £20. The apartment was nice other than the stair issue. We just planned to take all we needed with us to prevent us from having to climb the staircase again.

Had a week here in January, 2 bed apartment was great, clean, modern, comfortable. The views looking up at the old town and the castle were great. The reason I only give it 3 stars is due to it not having a lift and our apartment on top floor. We knew there were stairs but did not know which floor we were located to. To make matters worse (this is no fault of the owners) since booking I have ended up with having to use crutches, so the stairs were even more an issue. The others not on crutches also were not a fan of any the stairs We had to call the owners as no one had been to change the bin (should be every third day). If u wanted anymore clean towels or bedding that was an extra charge. Found it hard that towels and bedding was only changed once when we were there for a week.

We couldn’t fault the apartment. It had everything we needed and right in the centre of town. Especially loved that it had a coffee machine! Also very clean and lots of amazing space. Will definitely be booking again! The only negative was that it needed a long mirror in the bedroom area :)
