Hotel du Vin Edinburgh

This was a really marvellous experience. A group of us met last night in the upstairs bar at Hotel du Vin, before heading on to the Museum of Scotland for the nursing awards. Roy our sommelier could not have been kinder or more welcoming, he just added so much to the wonderful atmosphere, and he really made our night even more special. Highly recommend this bar, you will not be disappointed.

Loved the location, the room and the breakfast. Will continue to book with Hotel Du Vin when I travel!

Very convenient and near to almost all attractions in the city. Friendly and Cordial staff. Breakfast was excellent. Recommend to anyone.

Wonderful hotel in the old center of Edinburgh. Clean and comfortable rooms with a fabulous bar and extremely knowledgeable bartender. Roy patiently walked us through a very informative whisky tasting that quickly identified the taste profile that most appealed to my wife and I. Like the rest of the staff, Roy enhanced our experience in Edinburgh and made this a memorable three days in this beautiful city.

Great hotel within walking distance to the Royal Mile, restaurants, and shopping. Comfortable and well appointed rooms. Good restaurant with a complete cooked to order breakfast included with our stay. Very helpful staff especially Angela in the bistro. A very nice lounge and bar with comfortable seating. Roy, the bartender, is very personable and loves his job. He enjoys making his own special cocktails for his guests and provides lively conversation.

Our bartender, Roy, was a highlight of our short time in Edinburgh. We spent a couple of evenings talking about the area, the hotel, and great pub/bar recommendations. The room was small, but comfortable, wonderfully cozy bed. All of the staff was friendly and efficient. The location is fantastic, nearby all the sites of old town.

A colleague booked a meal at 7pm in the bistro for a group of us who were visiting Edinburgh on a business trip. I arrived 30 mins before our booking and decided to have a drink in the bar. Despite it being cocktail hour and bar area being full there was only one member of staff taking orders and preparing drinks. I waited almost 25 minutes for a glass of wine. By the time I received my drink it was time to join my colleagues in the restaurant. The menu was ok but didn’t feature anything particularly exciting. We opted not to have starters and all ordered mains around ten minutes after sitting down. We had been seated over an hour by the time the food eventually arrived. The portion sizes varied wildly depending on the dish ordered. There was no consistency at all. I opted for the schnitzel which was pretty tasteless. The Camembert mash was dry. The one saving grace was the spinach which was delicious. None of my colleagues were impressed with their meals either. Against our better judgement we decided to order dessert. Despite the restaurant being almost empty we again waited a long time for the course to be served. Several of my colleagues ordered either a peach or pear dish that all had to be sent back as they were missing ingredients listed on the menu. I had gone for ice cream thinking it would be very difficult to mess up. I was wrong. The ice cream had clearly been defrosted and refrozen has it was full of ice and was chewy. The meal was very overpriced for what it was. I would expect better in a mid range chain restaurant so for Hotel du Vin prices I was very unimpressed. The only reason I’m giving two out of five is that the wine was nice and front of house staff seemed to be trying their best.

We highly recommend this hotel, fantastic location, accommodation and facilities were perfect, a very relaxing peaceful setting, breakfast was delicious with plenty to choose from and staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful.
