A modest aging property located in the small town of Califate that provides a convenient base for exploring the nearby lake and natural wonders. It looks quite stately from the lobby and exterior but the rooms and especially the bathrooms are long over due for an upgrade. We stayed for two nights at the end of January as part of a tour to visit glaciers and national parks. We stayed in a king room on the 2nd floor. While perfectly clean and comfortable it was definitely a step down from other hotels on this trip-comparable to a mid-scale spot in the US. Like other area hotels in Patagonia, there is no Ac due to the normally cool climate and heat is provide via antiquated radiators. Luckily there was a large sliding window to open but without any cross ventilation or fan to move air, the room felt stuffy. The small bathroom was at least 20 years old with outdated fixtures like the tub/shower combo and a tiny single sink with antiquated faucet and sputtering water pressure. Bath amenities were also very basic. Breakfast was included and while there were many selections, items were largely packaged and canned foods set out like canned pears, cold cuts, and processed meats and cheese. As I said, despite the woeful lack of creature comforts, as a place to crash for a couple of nights it was perfectly adequate.
Thank you for choosing our smoke-free Esplendor El Calafate hotel. Free onsite parking outdoor available . Airport shuttle available for a nominal fee.

We stayed here for 3 nights. It’s a nice hotel with friendly staff. It’s the small things that bother me like on the 2nd floor at the elevator only the up button can be pressed. At breakfast, at 09:00 when we came for breakfast the eggs were cold. The next day we had a pickup at 07:10 and they said breakfast starts at 06;00. I guess nobody told the kitchen staff. They only put out the food at 06:25 and the eggs were cold. The 3rd day we went down at 06:20 and everyone still had to wait for them. And guess what, the eggs were cold. The rooms are nice and you have a nice view from the room to lake Argentina.

We stayed at the Boutique Hotel La Cantera in El Calafate for 3-nights in mid-Oct, two nights while visiting the Perito Morena Glacier and one night after returning from a visit to Ushuaia and before taking the bus to Chile ($120 US/night). The hotel is on a hill 5-blocks above main street (with all of the restaurants, shops), so a car is an asset; however, for those without, they offer an evening shuttle with a local taxi for less than $1. Plenty of free parking is available. The hotel is in two buildings, each on its own terrace. Our superior doubles were on the upper terrace in the building with reception and the restaurant. Both were spacious, although one had a large entry area and more plush furnishings. There was a king bed with side tables, an open cabinet for clothes, safe, mini-refrigerator, TV, and two chairs and a table by the window with a view of the lake over the front building. It was fronted by a terrace with some lawn furniture that was accessible by going through the lobby or simply stepping out over the low-silled window. We didn't use it, though, because of the howling, cold wind at this time of year. The room was heated by a sub-floor system with no controller in the room; we found it too warm, so had to prop the window open at night. Breakfast was good, with a choice of eggs, fresh-squeezed orange juice, mimosas, and the regular ham, cheese, and baked items. The staff were friendly and helpful. They stored a bag for us while we were on our excursion to Ushuaia, and were helpful in arranging a taxi to get us to our 8 am bus to Chile. A pleasant and comfortable boutique hotel.

Very courteous front desk people. Most of them spoke English. The room was mostly comfortable. The bathroom was a little cramped, but this seems to be the norm in this area. They allowed us to leave our bags in the front desk area for a few hours. The breakfast was pretty amazing.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! Nice room with balcony. The staff was extremely accommodating. I am a psychotherapist and needed a private space at one point during my stay to have a session with a client who was in crisis. They were able to provide me that space and were quite sympathetic. It was easily walkable to town each day, and we had no problem arranging a tour to take us to the glacier. For an extra charge, the hotel was able to provide us a very nice lunch for the time that we were at the glacier. We dined in the restaurant for dinner two of the nights, and both experiences were wonderful. The food was top-notch for dinner, and the cocktails were also superb! The breakfast each morning, which I believe was included, was absolutely delicious! There were a lot of healthy options provided. I would also like to highly recommend the medical facility that was quite close to the hotel, TMSALUD. I had an issue with my knee and got in quickly to have a consult with Dr. Gimenez, who was INCREDIBLE! Overall, I would absolutely recommend this hotel not only for the accommodations, but for location to all the attractions nearby.

The Design Suite Hotel is exactly what it is called. It is a very design and very beautiful hotel. It should be the best view hotel in Calafate to see the Lake of Argentina. Each room has a whole window overlooking the lake. While slowly admiring the beautiful lake view, snow peaks, blue sky and white clouds. The restaurant is very beautiful, the breakfast is rich, the taste is good, the service is very warm, and the English is very good. It is very intimate that you can order a lunch set on the glacier hike, and there are oversized sandwiches, apples, water, chocolate pie, and energy bars, which are very worthwhile. Walk along the lake to the town center in about half an hour, and also pass through the wetland park. There are buses to and from the airport to pick up and drop off, following the bus is equivalent to a day trip to the town! All in all, very good value for money.

Although the hotel is not in the town center, the hotel provides a shuttle bus to and from the town center every hour, and the drive is about 15 minutes, not far. The hotel is located on the shores of Lake Argentine, with beautiful scenery and gorgeous sunrise colors! The front desk of the hotel has a service to provide local tourism projects. The lady has a very good attitude and helps our family to arrange the itinerary. The town is not big and has a very breath of life!

Ana at the front desk was nothing short of spectacular and Daniela at the restaurant stupendous. The hotel is a 5 minute drive from downtown but they have frequent free transport. The con is you are last to be picked up for any excursion but the pro you are the first to be dropped off. It’s got phenomenal views and staff to match. Couldn’t say better things.

Excellent
CChloeHotel is very central and we walked around town everywhere. Staff were super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend booking a massage it was delightful. Got rid of my knots and would have gotten another massage but we didnt book in advance so we werent able to. Spa area was unexpected little gem. Jacuzzi and a sauna. The only down side to the hotel was the water pressure wasn't great. Makes a lot of strange noises as well. But this doesn't take away from the rest of the positives from the hotel.
I would like to highly recommend Linda Vista and Linda the owner. We were family of five coming from Miami. The apartment is big, well equipped, and super clean. The breakfast is great and staff are efficient and nice like Linda. The service is truly unbelievable: anything we needed was successfully dealt with immediately no matter what was the time or request. Moreover, In terms of trips in the area Linda is so knowledgeable and helped us choose the ones that will be perfect for our family, and save us time online and booked for us whatever we wanted even in the same day without any extra costs and with excellent providers. When there was time for us to leave to Bariloche she found out we forgot our medicine. She immediately contacted us, and though we were in flight away she spent her own time, did everything she could to sent it to us and indeed though we could not find, she was able to locate someone who flew within a day to our location. This kindness and service is very rare and needs to be cherish. We enjoyed our stay very much. It felt like home away from home, and we could not recommend enough Linda vista.
GGuest UserThe hotel breakfast is typical Western style, and the variety is OK. The service staff is really good and very friendly. Especially the young guy is very patient, help me book miniterrking and answer various questions. The hotel is located on the edge of the town and is very quiet. It takes about five minutes to walk to the landmark and 10 minutes to the center of the town. The penultimate photo is basically the center, with a toilet. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the Argentine lake.
GGuest UserThe Glaciar Libertador provides more of a ”cabin - hostel” vibe than that of a proper hotel. The cleaning ladies were polite and keep the place in a decent shape, but the hotel doesn't make you feel very welcome. Reception is matter of fact, breakfast is decent but serving rather stingy portions - you need to make effort to get a decent serving of scrambled eggs for example. As such, the hotel is rather overpriced for what you get. As a traveler and guest I'd prefer to be left out of politics. However, the hotel's prominent support through its window display for Israel (flag + sign reading ”we stand by Israel”), that so far has murdered over 30.000 civilians (70% women and children), made my stay rather uncomfortable. Knowing it's a rather ”polemic” political topic that perhaps has no place on tripadvisor, considering that it was the hotel's decision to take a clear public political stance, I also feel that it is helpful to share here for those travellers who wish to take an informed and conscious decision on whether to stay here. I certainly would have wanted to know before booking online.
After brilliant experiences all over Argentina, Arakur in Ushuaia, Los Cerros in El Chalten, to hotels in Bariloche, BA. Mendoza etc, we were excited to stay here at Lagos. How disappointing. The breakfast was the quality of a hotel one third the price. They could not control guests at 1am from running up and down hallways, partying in rooms. The walls have no insulation, so my wife could hear snoring through her ear plugs, through a wall. The staff were obnoxiously rude. The rooms dated, no free water. At least they were clean. The lobby is nice, the pool beautiful. The chainsaw, mower and other power tools all day outside window, for three days though has been testing. Ask to speak to manager and got nothing. Changing rooms to cheaper one but not getting refundwas also hard. Do not recommend
GGuest UserOff course opinions vary, I know. Our expirience was not that great. On the positive side, rates are interesting compared to other ho(s)tels. Laundry service is nice. But that's pretty much it. The expression 'when you pay peanuts, you get...' exists for a reason. That everything is basic comes with a cheap hostel. But some things are a bit too basic, like for instance the matrass. Isolation is literally zero, aspecially when you are sleeping roadside. Earplugs is a must, and even then you have to be lucky to get some sleep. Enough people will call the breakfast simple but sufficient, or something like that. But it's hard to call slices of bread to toast and orange parts sufficient. And to conclude with; I guess you could say staff is friendly, but apart from that pretty incompetent.
Overall the Hotel was nice but when we first checked in the room they assigned to us was facing the dusty parking lot with no view whatsoever except the cars. When asked to be moved to another room, the morning reception person would only give us another room at an addition US $20 per night. The hotel did not appear to be fully booked so we surprised at this request but reluctantly agreed. Upon checking out, the same morning receptionist, she charged us twice for the bottles of water we consumed and in our rush to get the taxi did realize this unit l later. Other than the morning Reception person our stay was good. On the contrary, the evening Reception was much more helpful and pleasant.
BBORecommend, this kind of accommodation in a small town is very good
1. The room environment is good, clean and tidy
2. The hotel’s breakfast is very rich, and the lunch set is very good
3. The front desk brother has good English, communication is barrier-free, and the people are very enthusiastic
4. Double bed room with a child to sleep, the bed is a bit small
