Funky Monk Hotel

What an absolutely brilliant place. 10 friends went and we had the best night from start to finish. Food was really nice and the entertainer was even better. The magician was amazing and they had a singer called Tilly who was superb, the DJ (George) was also brilliant and played the best music. Will definitely be returning 😁

Booked a table for the resteraunt for Saturday evening.for birthday celebrations. When we arrived was told we had to sit in bar area as no available tables were in the resteraunt. No tables were laid in this area. I like to see people but this was full up with people all standing around the tables. The girl who we spoke to was very apologetic. We approached the owner as he was there making the decions then left the girl to it and didn't approach us. When I told him that I had booked in advance he just shrugged his shoulders and said nothing he could do, didn't even offer a drink to apologise. Very very arrogant. All he is interested in is people going in there drinking. Would not go there again.

Visited on Mother’s Day Great restaurant would highly recommend the Sunday roast was amazing especially the Yorkshire pud and the Entertainment was spot on . Friendly and attentive staff will definitely be visiting again . Thankyou funky monk Epping

I have mixed feelings… Starting with the décor, which is quite OTT – not to everyone’s taste! The access to the hotel rooms, through the rear of the property, reflects the age of the building – a bit of a warren, with uneven floors and, as is the case throughout, low ceilings! My room was quite comfortable, and the bed was ideal – I slept very well. The small bathroom was filled with large fluffy towels, and good soaps, shampoo, and conditioners - perfect for my morning shower! The mini bar was well stocked, and at reasonable prices. On the downside, the kitchen closed in the afternoon, so my relatives and I were obliged to find someplace else to eat that evening. Yes, it was Sunday, but they do advertise that the restaurant is open for all meals every day! Furthermore, although the staff was ever so nice, none were on hand the next morning. I am an early riser, but nobody was available until 8:00am when the cleaning staff arrived… Breakfast service only begins at 9:00am, and although my relatives were not picking me up until 10:00am, having been awake for quite a while, I needed an earlier fix!

After reading recent reviews I was a little worried about visiting however so pleased we did and I could make my own mind up. We thoroughly enjoyed it, food was good, staff were lovely, fabulous decor and the a**osphere was great. I would definitely go again. Not the cheapest eating place in Epping but you know that before you get there.

We’ve been Sunday lunchtime before & was good, went this time on a Saturday night ok as I’ve said before the vibe is great the staff are 10/10 but the food was terrible the starter was passable the dessert ok but the main was inedible literally I had one mouthful of cold chips and dry as a bone chicken Kiev and just left it when asked what was wrong I told them and they took the meal and a bottle of wine off the bill which is nice but to be fair I don’t go out for that I go out to enjoy a nice meal, the venue is great but fgs get a decent chef!! Won’t go again sorry

A truly dreadful experience. Much the case of over priced average food and a management who are rude, arrogant and have no customer care. The rest of the staff try their best but do not be fooled that the decor will be matched by the awful food which comes at a high cost and complain if you dare to be met with the worse customer service I’ve ever experienced.

A strange place. A cold, drafty noisy place, really loud noise from the road all night and even louder noise (60+ decibels) from the bar til well after midnight on a weeknight. Would have liked to have known this beforehand as it would have influenced our booking. The room was small with lots of unnecessary frippery, lots of emphasis on the minibar offering. A good hairdryer, lots of sockets and a comfy chair. The shower leaked all over the floor as the door didnt close properly, there is also an issue with its feed as it sprays upwards thus making the feed quite feeble. Breakfast was disappointing, the coffee was nice though. Staff were pleasant and friendly

It was ok. Service was good, The food isnt bad at all but nothing special. The main thing for us is the music was so loud during dinner we couldn’t hear ourselves speak, the staff couldn’t hear us ordering at times either when the singer was on. We didn’t mind at all when the 21:00 singer came on and she was getting the party started but it would have been nice to not have the 19:00 singer blaring out through the speakers , it’s not the biggest room and when i say you can’t hear yourselves speak you really can’t. It’s not what i would want thinking i’m going for a nice meal, but if you go with the mindset that it’s more of a party than a nice restraunt you would be fine. We had fun dancing in the bar , if the music was a little quieter during the dinner service it has potential to be great.
