Janet and her staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The common areas were comfortable and very homey; a nice place to sit and relax. Breakfast was good with a daily special such as quiche, egg sandwiches or egg & hash casserole. Every day oa**eal, yogurt, toast and danish were offered as well as orange juice, coffee, tea and cocoa. The bed and bedding was very comfortable. A small space heater (looked like a mini pot-bellied stove) and a boot warmer were welcome additions to the large room that included a queen bed, twin bed, chair and desk. We had access to a deck right outside our room where it was possible to see the Northern Lights while still in your PJs (and coat!). Very conviently located near Fairbanks but far enough away to avoid light pollution. Nice areas to hike even in the winter. The only negative was that our bathroom had not yet been refurbished. The Lodge is in the process of redoing the bathrooms. I saw one of the other guests rooms with a large ceramic tiled shower. Unfortunately our bathroom had linoleum walls and floor with a fiberglass insert shower that was so small it was hard to turn around. It had a 12" step out to the floor with nothing to hang on to except a towel bar that was pulled out of the wall and hanging on by the linoleum. Be aware that the Lodge uses well water in the bathrooms with an unavoidable and unpleasant sulphur odor. All of the drinking water is from a spring and tastes great. Definitely recommend, just ask for a refurbished bathroom.

Just returned home from an amazing vacation in Alaska, and my stay at Grizzly Lodge was definitely the highlight. Janet, Fred, Roy, Denise, Gabe and Nina were all so helpful and made my (solo) stay feel like home. Homemade breakfasts were amazingly delicious (over the 3 days I had a variety of omelettes, quiche, eggs, bacon, hash browns, pastries, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, tea) and also loved that I could bring some of my own snacks and wine to enjoy throughout the day in between my activities (a few refrigerators for cold items, and plenty of utensils/cups/plates etc). The Northern Lights were incredible (just step out on the balcony of the lodge for one of the best shows Mother Nature can provide). The door knock / northern lights wake-up was such a treat (staying in your warm bed and only woken up if the lights were out vs. staying up all night). They had plenty of winter gear if you needed something more substantial, grippers for the pesky ice and most of all, a wealth of knowledge of the area to make the trip more successful. I’m confident if you forgot anything at home, or needed advice on things to do, you’d be in good hands. I stayed in room 10 with a comfy, soft queen and twin bed, balcony and en suite bathroom. There were boot warmers and a space heater for added comfort, as well as a TV (Roku/streaming services like Netflix) and great WiFi. The lodge was very quiet, and plenty of common space, where you could cuddle up with a book or socialize with other guests. Their dogs, Riley (puppy in training) and Tasha were very sweet and well behaved…greeting you with tails wagging! I will definitely recommend staying here without a single hesitation. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it back again someday!

AWESOME - staff - and the Lights weren't bad either. I totally lucked out booking this place. A quick drive from the airport. A comfy room - great bed. Yummy breakfasts. The best for me was the fact that I did not have to leave Lodge to get perfect views of the Aurora - could have gone to bed early - but preferred the company of Janet - who constantly monitored for activity and would then notify guests. Having a common room off of the large deck made sharing the experience with other guests was fantastic. If you are a people person this is the place. LOL and if you don't tolerate cold you are only steps away from hot chocolate or coffee.

We loved staying at the Alaska Grizzly Lodge, and we LOVED seeing the Aurora! Fred and Janet, the new owners, are friendly and knowledgeable! The breakfasts are tasty and filling. If you are looking for super fancy look elsewhere, if you are looking for comfy cozy you can't beat the Alaska Grizzly Lodge and you certainly can't beat their personal interest and care. And of course you can not beat the location if you get the privilege of seeing the Aurora because you walk right out onto a deck, and then can go back in to warm up!

Lovely stay at the Alaska Grizzly Lodge. It was warm, cozy clean and the hosts Janet and Fred provide warm, friendly and knowledgeable hospitality. If you want a fancy hotel with a spa like feel, it's not the place for you. However if you want to feel you are staying with friends in a woodsy cabin, highly recommend. Janet's passion for the aurora is infectious, she ensured we woke up when it was visible, and helped everyone get pictures. Would absolutely stay here again. Far enough from the city to be away from major light pollution, close enough to eat in town.

We have stayed here twice. Both times have been absolutely superb. This is a great place to stay, just outside of Fairbanks but very convenient to the city and lots of different activities. The rooms are very comfortable, have everything you need. They have thought of all the little amenities. There are many viewing decks, some rooms have balconies that you can go out to view the Aurora. They will wake you up if the aurora shows up and not only that, they will make sure that you are out there if you happen to sleep through, they will make sure you get out there if you would like to be there. Fred and Janet are absolutely delightful. Both of them are highly experienced and know everything there is to know about Alaska. There was not a single question we asked that they did not have a ready answer for. They are extremely helpful and can suggest and describe different activities. I recommend this place without hesitation, we plan on coming back to Fairbanks and will stay here again.

Absolutely loved this place! Great location, easy to find, very welcoming and accommodating. Janet and Fred were super kind and willing to assist us with everything from providing artic gear to where to stop on the way to Denali for the best photo ops. Of course you can stay and see the Northern lights from the lodge or for less light pollution you can head out of town. Great place to start your adventure and the breakfast is the best!!!
