Himself and I took advantage of an offer for this hotel, and as regular visitors to Falmouth thought it was a great deal. We paid for two nights (Saturday and Sunday) then added the third night after the deal had run out at an additional cost. We were looking forward to our first ever stay at the Falmouth Hotel (we normally stay elsewhere in Falmouth), but were disappointed, particularly as we have stayed in a Richardsons hotel elsewhere and never experienced a problem. Our room was one of (if not the) smallest rooms in the hotel, and we were horrified at being charged £175 to stay in it for the extra night. The bed had a mattress that had probably seen better days, and the overall experience taking cost into account was certainly not even equal to a night in a premiere inn. Although breakfast was included, the poor young man on shift all weekend on his own to do everything made it a challenge. People were complaining that basics were not available because supplies had not been topped up such as bread and butter, some of the hot food, coffee and cups etc., and all the time this chap is trying to do it all, including clearing and laying up tables. I even cleared some dishes for him myself! We did enjoy the pool, which was clean, although we didn’t use the spa pool, and the facility was easy to access. We also enjoyed a delicious sandwich in the bar on arrival in a well appointed lounge area. The building itself is obviously old, but well maintained in most areas, and the gardens neatly kept. The driveway entrance however, is littered with pot holes and not adequately lit for pedestrians exiting for a walk to the town. We booked Sunday dinner for 6.30 which was one of the few time slots available at a reasonable time, but were disappointed again, having been looking forward to a lovely three course meal, only to find there was no roast beef left, and as I am allergic to pork, the only option left to me was ‘nut’ roast. No offer to enquire with the chef what might be available, this particular member of staff was not helpful at all. I didn’t want to eat the proffered alternative of a burger, so with some disdain we left to walk to the town in search of a decent meal. In summary, the experience was one we will not be repeating. and will be returning to a hotel we know has the best quality local produce always on offer, a bed so comfortable you sleep like a baby, rooms beautifully decorated and maintained, and staff who make you feel like you are their only focus. Definitely unimpressed, and wouldn’t return.
