Never again! Where to start? Always start on a high, the grounds are beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful. I made a late booking having found the hotel on comparison websites and thought I had a good price so selected a double superior room. I phoned the hotel to clarify a few details and was given a loyalty code which would give me an additional discount for "any food ordered, food from the restaurant and the bar". On arrival I asked about booking a meal that evening, only to be told that they didn't do food at the weekend! They would however provide me with cutlery if I ordered in (oh gee, thanks!). After an exasperating experience in a local Beefeater (they couldn't cater for someone anaphylaxis to garlic), I went to sainsburys. Ringing the hotel I asked if I brought something could they heat it up? I was told that they couldn't on the grounds of cross contamination; I wasn't even allowed to access the kitchen and use a microwave! This hotel does not have kitchen staff they use "caterers". I enquired about a meal the following evening only to be shown a 'fixed menu' and after some questions, I quickly discussed that they do not cook food freshly, food is pre-pared and "reheated". The menu itself is very limited with little choice. There was one 'plush' chair to sit on in the room - I decided to give that a miss based on the blood stain or cigarette burn (I left my forensics kit at home). Thankfully I brought my own coffee and plunger suspecting I might be faced with tiny coffee sachet things (yep not disappointed there). No saucers for the tiny cups! No mats to put your unsaucered cup on! All I can say is thank you Sainsburys for having a stock of mugs and food! Therefore if you are expecting to stay in the beautiful hotel you see advertised.... you aren't! It is a glorified B&B, admittedly in stunning grounds. I truly am not a negative person. This was supposed to be a treat for some quiet relaxation for a mentally exhausted paramedic. Instead the whole experience has been ruined and I am deeply disappointed. Superior room??? For decor, a Premium Inn would have been far brighter. You can make up your own mind. Depends what you want?
