My wife and I had a rough week with a lack of sleep. We visited family for the weekend and just needed an extra night to recharge before we arrived home. Frensham Pond Hotel really fit the bill on paper and indeed we arrived to a beautiful part of Surrey and a hotel far from built up areas overlooking a large, serene pond that even had beaches and picnic areas. Our room was a large size and very comfortable whilst being well decorated and including a TV, coffee and tea facilities and a nice bathroom. We did however discover mould around the windows and, as it turned out, the walls between rooms are paper thin, with me feeling like I'm in the same room as a couple talking and giggling near midnight. Fortunately they went to sleep not long after. The bar was very nice and offered a good range of drinks and mixture of food items. However, the pepperoni pizza I had was a puzzling combination of a hard as stone crust with an undercooked centre, making it taste a bit more like a thick soup and also upsetting my stomach. It wasn't worth half the £15. When we told the waiter they said they'd tell the chef but didn't offer to deduct it from the bill or provide an alternative. We didn't try the restaurant this stay. Cons: - Mould in room. We would have asked for another room if we'd spotted it earlier - Noise. The walls are very porous, making it pot luck whether you get peace and quiet or not. There was also a light but repetitive banging sound through the night, with the ventilation system also randomly making strange noises. - Pizza was sub-par - Room service to the garden rooms required an extra payment for delivery from the main building (it is at best 3 minutes walk) - there were perhaps 3 staff members in the main building that we saw, with people often waiting at the bar for service. Pros: - Lovely and comfortable rooms which would have offered a great sleep normally - free WiFi that worked well. - remote from any built up areas offers a relative peace - beautiful location - easy check in A note: we booked through Last Minute, where all the rooms are advertised as sound proofed. This is simply not the case, so take that with a pinch of salt.
