We were part of a wedding party , which was a wonderful event on a sunny day. The dining room looked superb. We stayed at the hotel for two nights. It was in a nice position at the edge of playing fields and has an attractive garden with benches and sun umbrellas. A bus stops right outside, which runs hourly to Glasgow, so brilliant to make connections to transport further away. The Eaglesham Parish Church is 5 minutes away and had a great service on Sunday mornings at 11am. The hotel is very clean. The South Eglinton Arms Hotel is obviously very old, but SO dark in décor, everywhere especially in our room. All 4 walls were dark brown plus the cupboards (there was no real wardrobes) with hangers and a shelf at the bottom. It was so dark inside them, we had to use the torch on our phones to see if there was anything we had left behind. The TV was in front of the window with a row of sockets behind. The tray of tea/coffee was on a pull out shelf but there was no 13 amp. socket for the kettle apart from the one behind the TV. We didn't use that as surely it's not good to have steam going in the electrics of television? In the end, we plugged it into the one on the floor near the room door - we had to be careful not to trip over the cord, of course. We could easily hear a "noisy" couple in the room next to ours; at first I thought it was the plumbing but after more listening, it certainly was not the pipes! The walls must have been very thin. Our double bed had only one shared light above our two pillows which was inconvenient seeing I wanted to read later than my husband. There was no switch my side of the bed, so I had to get out of the bed, walk around to the other side where my husband was and turn off the switch, which was a bit of a pain. At the same time the light was shining in his face, which was not ideal. We feel the cost for the 2 nights and breakfast was high compared to the Premier Inns where we had stayed in central Glasgow. Overall, it's not too bad but apart from attending a wedding, I would not choose to stay there again.
