We stayed here in April 2021. The hotel is heaven on earth for those who come to Colombia to have an active, cycling-based vacation. The setup is fantastic. Everything has been meticulously thought out and the place is very well designed. Bikes: The rental bikes are in excellent condition and are of high quality. The frames are made in Medellin by a master craftsman. You can also bring your own bike. They sell kits and parts. They also let you use the workshop and their complete Park Tool set. The bike wash is very convenient. We arrived not knowing anything about the local routes. Juan showed us a book with dozens of pre-mapped routes of various distances and difficulty. You can download the routes to a Garmin or Strava. Although the roads in the area can be narrow, drivers are used to cyclists and are very courteous. I never felt like I was in danger riding on the roads, even on the equivalent of the major highway. Just keep an eye out for random speed bumps! Food: You will not go hungry here! The free breakfast the perfect way to start a day of riding. It is delicious and ample with eggs, fruit, cereals, and yoghurts. You can order lunch and dinner (not free) which is equally delicious. We ate very well here and only went into town for a few meals. They even have a wood-burning pizza oven! Rooms: The rooms are very comfortable and all have a scenic view towards the mountains. The hotel was very quiet, but we were the only guests for most of the time we stayed there because of COVID-19. The hot water never ran out, and there is plenty of shelving to store everything you bring. My only complaint is that it got a little warm inside at night. A ceiling fan would help. You can also simply open the patio doors to let air in, but insects will fly in. Hotel itself: The hotel is very beautiful and is a fine example of modern architecture that has been tailored to the exact location. The grounds are lush. The patio is the perfect place to enjoy morning breakfast, or watch the sun set after a hard day of riding. There are additional amenities like a steam bath and a yoga studio, but we did not try these out. There is no pool or jacuzzi. However, the temperature was never so hot while we were there that I felt like a pool was necessary. Overall: This is a very unique place to stay. I am not aware of any other cycling-focused lodging in Colombia. If you want an active vacation with good food, beautiful scenery, and kind people, I recommend coming to Colombia and staying at Casa du Velo. Juan and Laura are very kind and they want to share their love of cycling with their guests. The staff are wonderful and made us very comfortable. I look forward to returning one day!
