Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Victor/Rochester

The hotel is a bit dated and could use a refresh on carpets and door locks. My key cards would work for a day and then stop working. I constantly had to have them rekey the cards. Breakfast is heavy on the carbs but the coffee machine actually makes a decent cup of coffee. Greek yogurt was a nice addition and Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches were usually available, along with their pancake machine and bagels. the rooms sport bathtubs that are fairly tall and might be a challenge for older visitors

I'm gonna start this by prefacing that i was nervous to stay at another Microtel. Last September i stayed at the one in Henrietta and it was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Awful smell, black mold, the person at the desk asking me if i had touched anything because they were going to have to put someone in the room that i complained about. But this isn't Henrietta. This is Victor and on walking in i was greeted with a very friendly man behind the desk and a fresh smelling lobby. He directed me to my room and after a walk up the stairs we walking into our room. It was immaculate. No smoke smell, no overpowering bleach smell and exceptionally clean. The only things i picked out was a stain on the floor and there were threads pulling up on the carpet. Neither bothered me at all. Comfy bed, clean bathroom, clean shower, tv worked no issues. Everything i needed for a room for a night. The only downside i could think of was hearing the highway right outside our room but even that wasn't a big deal. And if I'm being extremely nit-picky the stairway had some dirt in it. But hey, it was 6:30 on a really rainy day. Of course some things are going to get in We stay around Henrietta twice a year and this is Microtel is definitely on the top of my list for next time

The breakfast offered was OK. Parking was convenient. However, billing went to my charge card daily including the $10 incidental fee. When I attempted to resolve this with the associate on duty he was unable to do so. He had to call the manager at home. I have had to check me credit card daily to verify the daily incidental fee was removed. In my 50 years of traveling I’ve always received on bill at checkout …. never daily charges.

My credit card was carved multiple times BEFORE I checked out. Also, I had a $10/day included in these charges. A a traveler for 50 years I find this practice totally unacceptable. I will not be staying at a Microtel in the future.

There were literal lightbulbs missing from the very few lights you even get in hotel rooms. The walls were paper thin so I had to listen to everyone and the rooms were far smaller than average. I travel for work weekly and this I thought would have been an average safe place, but god even the sheets smelt like a hospital bed. You know that smell in hospitals or hospice homes? That's what the linens smelt like. It was pretty upsetting to lay in that. The staff was nice enough. It was really just the property that was shockingly off-putting. It's also immediately off the thruway which is a plus, but I would never stay here again nor recommend it to anyone.

We found the room very clean, but too small and horribly lit. Not even enough light to read in bed.
