Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club

Whole experience was lovely, staff were very attentive with us, and we enjoyed our stay. Local attractions were enough to entertain the kids.

I stayed here after seeing the place in the papers years ago. I am a big Winnie the Pooh fan and have always wanted to visit the area. So when I saw BuyaGift had 26% off and a stay here cost £140, I snapped it up. I booked for bank holiday Friday (it’s £10 more if you wish to stay on the Saturday night). The staff were very friendly and attentive. We could check in an hour earlier and they allowed a complimentary check out time of 12pm to allow for a leisurely breakfast and shower after parkrun. Rooms were very large. Molton brown toiletries included. Winnie the Pooh decor in the rooms. The terrace and grounds are so stunning and relaxing. Pool is nice and worth a visit. We didn’t have dinner at the hotel as went to a local pub just 7 mins away - Gallipot Inn. There are plenty in local villages around the hotel. The only things I would note as downers is that each time you go to the bar, they add a gratuity (which was not communicated). I’d understand if they were bringing the drinks to us, but we were literally walking up to the bar and taking away to the terrace. I also found breakfast a little disappointing. We were told breakfast was until 10:30. I did parkrun 15 mins away and was back at the hotel by 10:05. I had to wait 5 mins to be seated as no one was around. Was then told I had to order ASAP. However, no one came and asked us until 10 mins later. The continental buffet was not getting restocked despite others also coming in at this time. There was o bread to have toast for example. No more fresh fruit. If I’d known, I’d probably have gone before parkrun. Wold have been very disappointed if we’d paid full price for the hotel. I think they should be attentive to all guests no more what time you decide to have breakfast.

We stayed for 2 nights in a deluxe room which was clean and well appointed. The grounds are glorious and the staff helpful and friendly. Sadly the weekend was spoilt by the shockingly poor quality of the food in the main dining room. We love fish but the Fish of the Day (£36) was coley, the cheapest fish on the market, and one my mother used to buy to feed the cat. So we opted for the chateaubriand (£90). I don't know what they served us but it was unlikely to be the fillet. It was dry and tough and my husbands was full of gristle. The sauce that came with the dish was so thick you could upend the jug and it didn't move. I couldn't eat it any of it and sent the plate back. I was told the chef refused to cook another one so I opted for the chicken which at least was edible if a bit boring. The second night we went to the local pub and had a delicious meal. For breakfast I had the smoked haddock and poached egg which was swimming in water but pleasant . My husband had the full English which had obviously been cooked hours before. You could play Frisbee with the fried egg and the sausage and bacon were so hard my husband couldn't get his fork into them. This dish should never have been allowed to leave the kitchen it was disgraceful. Such a shame and not what one would expect from 'an award winning restaurant'. My advice: by all means stay in the hotel but don't waste your money and get ripped off by eating n the restaurant.

More fawlty towers than 4 star. We had booked the din̈er tasting menu on Fri 17/05. The service was horrendous. Whilst the food was ok (at best) the wine was served without a sommelier in basic glasses without any intro as to why it was paired with the course. The waiter just dumped it on the table 'rioja' without any explanation. I have eaten tasting meus across sussex, and this was without doubt the worst service I have ever had. We looked around for the hidden cameras to see if we were in the fawlty towers experience, but no, this would seem to be the norm! My advice, avoid and spend your money elsewhere...

Just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay here for our friends 70th birthdays. We arrived the day before the party so had time to explore the hotel & gorgeous grounds yesterday before having a lovely treatment in the spa ( courtesy of Rosie who was lovely). Our evening started with a jazz band on the lawn with champagne & canapés and the waiting staff were all amazing. We then went into what used to be the Chapel and is now one of the most beautiful venues to dine & dance in. All the staff were lovely and a real credit to the hotel. We shall definitely be back! Thank you to everyone.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to come to Ashdown Park Hotel Spa for a pamper day and I was not disappointed. I had a lovely welcome from the receptionist and was then shown round the Spa by a helpful young lady. After coffee I had a relaxing facial and partial massage from K*** who was very pleasant and immediately made me feel completely at ease. She gave a wonderful, relaxing yet firm massage and was very professional. After a tasty vegan lunch and dessert, I explored the grounds and then walked around the estate, lake and woodlands for over an hour. The day was very special, peaceful and I was able to relax and really enjoy being pampered. Highly recommended.

I rang and spoke to a lovely lady named Sarah and booked an afternoon tea for 4 for yesterday (Saturday) my daughters and myself wanted to surprise my sister-in-law as it was her 60th birthday, Sarah took all the details including my sister-in-law’s name etc. We got there and asked if we could sit outside as it was such a lovely day, there were a lot of people sat outside as the weather was so good, we sat down and waited a while eventually our order was taken, it was all a shambles after that!! We had dirty Prosecco glasses, one had lipstick marks! they were eventually changed, but the wait time was terrible, one poor girl serving just kept saying Sorry for the wait, they just didn’t have enough staff and obviously didn’t expect to be that busy, our food came eventually and when we asked for more tea it was completely stewed where it had been waiting to be brought out..nobody to ask for it to be changed and when we did it was just another long wait for someone to come back, lots of people complaining about the wait time to be served…one guy from another table actually went to the kitchen to ask if he could get his food as he had been waiting for ages! There was no mention for my sister-in-laws birthday at all like I thought there would be after giving the details but to be honest the whole experience was terrible anyway, lots of dirty tables just left because there weren’t enough staff to cope, the worst experience I’ve ever had in terms of expectation and service from such a stunning place. I felt really let down Will not be back

We came for a friend’s birthday for afternoon tea. We had a wonderful afternoon and were made to feel very special. Service was really attentive and food was of a really high quality. The property itself is beautiful. I would highly recommend.
