Rydges Canberra, an EVT hotel

Will be back again this December to celebrate our wedding anniversary .Nice place nice food nice staff.

Had a lovely relaxing stay

Arrival after checked in hour, waited 45 minutes to get a room

It was great service and best value for money

We stayed in the wheelchair accessible queen room for two nights. There was ample room next to either side of the queen bed to park a wheelchair, although the bed was a little high (at approximately 24") for a slide transfer but may suit other users with a higher wheelchair. The large bathroom has a wheel-in shower, fold down shower seat and grab rails. There is a wheel-under sink with accessible shelf, and right hand transfer toilet with grab rail. However, the distance from the toilet to the grabrail was too far a reach for me to slide transfer safely. This would not be a problem for those who use an over the toilet commode. The positives of Rydges was the close proximity to Parliament, Portrait Gallery, and Manuka Oval, as well as the buffet breakfast, undercover, locked carpark ($18 per night), and 11am checkout. The negatives were the bathroom was not to accessible standards, and the room carpet was very dirty and in need of shampooing.

My husband, son and I stayed in the Embassy Suite for our 3 night stay at The Rydges Canberra. The soft and comfortable Rydges Dream Bed was amazing and the hotel is situated in a nice and quiet location. It is a 15 min walk to Manuka Shopping Precinct and approx. 25 min walk to Parliament House and Questacon which is very handy. Unfortunately though the room (and hotel) is tired and in desperate need of a renovation. Damaged walls, dirty and dated furniture, grubby, no bedside power points, phone not working, air con not working, lamps not working and a lot of wasted space and mismatched furniture (and artwork) that have just been randomly thrown wherever with no care or thought. We had an atrium view of the lobby and restaurant which I wish I would’ve known about beforehand otherwise I would never of booked (yep, no window or balcony to the outside as pictured on their website). It felt very stuffy and claustrophobic. We had to keep our curtains closed most of the time too for privacy as you can see into everyone else’s rooms. This sort of information should really be disclosed at the time of booking. I was not expecting to have an inside view of the hotel. It was so odd and very disappointing. Staff were unhelpful and were there to just do a job. Our phone in the room wasn’t working so we couldn’t order any room service. When we went downstairs to the front desk to inform them of this we were told they’ll get to it tomorrow but no one did. On another occasion we asked a staff member if they had a fork that my son could use in the room for his dinner but were told that they do not provide this sort of service even though they have a restaurant and breakfast area onsite. One of the mornings I put the do not disturb sign on the door and headed out for a few hours only to come back later to find housekeeping had let themselves in anyway. I was so disappointed with my stay here as I felt misled by the photos and information on the hotel website. Due to my own experience of the hotel I would never stay here again. I felt like it lacked personality and substance. I would only recommend this hotel if you are passing through Canberra and looking for somewhere cheap (with a comfortable bed) to stay the night.

At Rydes you will feeling completely at home in the well-appointed accommodation. The utmost in comfort, style and convenience. If you are on the road with your kids, there were many families enjoying the indoor pool the day I arrived, it was school holidays. Your room comes appropriately stocked mini bar and snacks for that late night munch. Comfort and convenience is all good and well but the rooms also have all the technology you need with televisions and Plenty of space for ongoing work commitments. Rooms are also fitted with double glazed windows, a work desk, coffee table and sofa. Dined in at Rydges. Free parking and breakfast included in my room rate.

The room was great, it was very clean, and all the staff at Rydges in Canberra were very courteous and helpful. The underground carpark car spots were very small and tight, with many concrete posts, so one had to be extremely careful to reverse park into these spots, but I managed it
