The Westleton Crown

We’ve just spent 3 nights at the Crown and have had one of the nicest UK hotel breaks. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. From the Guy who checked us in and made sure our room was not too warm, knew his wine too; the lovely lady in the restaurant who also made our little Frenchie welcome, and the young guy from Essex. But to be fair all staff were great. The food was also excellent. There was a wide variety which was prepared and served to a high standard. The wine list was excellent too. Again plenty of choice for all tastes. The room was very clean, coffee, water and biscuits replenished daily. The towels were also good quality. The best compliment I can give is that it felt like a family run hotel.

Stayed four nights for birding trip as it’s very near Minsmere and other sites. Staff a real asset - friendly and efficient. Room clean and comfortable. Inclusive canapés a nice touch. Dinner very good. Breakfasts freshly prepared (a welcome change from the usual dreary buffet) and tasty. Highly recommended.

We popped in to have a meal and decided to have a light bite to start with. The place was very peaceful so we had our pick of a table outside. Served as usual by the great barman even had a bit of banter with a blonde haired lady , who has served us before at breakfast .A black lady took our lite bite order which was white bait , it turned up and it was squid . I knew I had not ordered this as I do not like the tentacles my husband confirmed this . The waitress told me I had ordered this and walked off. We decided not to stay as we did not want the waitress deciding what we would be eating . There was hardly anyone there so it was not a mistake that happens when you are under pressure. Paid up used my loyalty points as we will not be returning any time soon.p.s fantastic service and food at the Wilford Bridge Melton, Woodbridge even though hectic for our lunch . Followed by a lovely walk along the Deben.

Can’t find any faults with this hotel. Friendly helpful staff, delicious food and spotless and comfortable rooms and don’t be put off by the dogs staying there, the rooms showed no sign of hair or smells and all were well behaved! We arranged to have a big family meal there for 17 of us so we had a room to ourselves with excellent service and tasty hot food all served at the same time. What’s not to love? Will be back.

A very relaxing and comfortable stay over a weekend. The staff were very helpful and efficient, the room was quiet and well equipped. Great location with plenty of places to visit in the area. This was our third visit to the Westleton Crown and we hope to return.

Our first visit was a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon and it was lovely. Welcoming and friendly staff, nice atmosphere, tasty food and good service. It was such a nice lunch we thought we would visit again. This time we booked a table. We arrived on time and the place seemed very quiet, really quite empty. We were shown to our table and given some water, then...nothing. The waitresses studiously ignored us, served other tables, chatted at length to other guests and cleaned tables. Indeed, other people who arrived after us were being served food and drinks, no problem. We tried to catch their attention but were blanked. After 30 minutes, thinking maybe outdoor tables needed to go to the bar to order food and drinks my partner went inside and asked one of the waitresses, to which, she said she would grab her pad and come over to our table. The older waitress duly arrived and took our order for drinks and food. To us, she seemed very insincere, almost smirking. She apologised in a very ‘unapologetic’ way and told us that she hadn't seated us so didn't know that our order had not been taken. Rather strange considering we were in full view of her for the previous 30 minutes. The waitress then asked what they could do to make things right, so my partner said he would think on it. Looking at our water on the table she offered us some ice, nothing else. She never did bring the ice, so when our drinks arrived, not particularly quickly, we had to ask the barman to bring us the ice. Our food arrived 20/25 minutes later, again, no urgency. From sitting at our table to being served our food took 55 minutes! We declined any dessert or coffee and received our bill. Not only had the 10% discretionary service charge been added, despite the appalling service, but we were also overcharged on one of the food items. We asked for the service charge and overcharged item to be removed. Only later did we realise that we had also been charged for a premium brand of gin in my gin and tonic when I had specifically asked for just an ordinary gin. There was a "special" gin and tonic on the menu for less than what we were charged!? Two different visits, the same days and the same times but two very different experiences, hugely disappointing.

We spent the weekend here with some really good friends. We had an issue with one of our meals but the manager went above and beyond to get it sorted out and couldn’t do enough for us afterwards. It was extremely appreciated so many thanks. That aside, we had a lovely time and breakfast was lovely! We will be back! Thanks again to the manager.

The room was on the second floor up two flights of very steep, narrow stairs. Not ideal when carrying a puppy. The breakfast on the first day was ok (Poor quality bacon though), on the second day, despite offering Sourdough toast on the menu 10 times, they had none as ‘we don’t get a delivery on Sundays’. The alternative was cardboard, cheap toast. If only the management cared, perhaps they could order more on a Saturday, or get in the car to a local bakery? On the final morning there was no hot water for a bath. They also forgot to put my dogs food in the ftidge meaning we had to throw it away. Shoddy all round, I’d avoid if I were you

We stayed at this hotel for a week and had a wonderful experience. The room was clean and comfortable, and the inclusive breakfast was fantastic. A shout out for the staff in the restaurant, who were professional, helpful, friendly and very efficient- nothing was too much trouble. We only ate once at the hotel in the evening as we were spending time locally with friends, but the meal we had was delicious. We were particularly impressed with the wine list. This hotel provides a great base for exploring the local area, with many tourist attractions and towns wishing easy reach.
