Hotel is set on amazing grounds, with beautiful, well maintained gardens but unfortunately that's all. Staff are not friendly, food is poor and rooms are dusty. Makes it worse in the heat as the room does not have air conditioning (rather an old fan that blows dust and warm air). Furthermore, the room does not have mini fridge and the shower only trickles water. Go to enjoy the grounds and maybe a drink but that's all!

Loved my short stay at this wonderful hotel. It was like stepping back in history and living in a stately home. First class service from the staff and marvellous food too. As for the grounds and gardens ! It was just so relaxing and calming walking around the extensive and peaceful grounds surrounding the house and visiting the family church in the woods. Would definitely recommend and will be returning again as soon as I can.

Lovely smart grounds when driving up and the hotel has that wow factor from the outside . Internally it was lovely and for a period old hotel it has the period drama tv look with a few modern twists . Lovely bar and the food was lovely … ( get some potato crisps at the bar lol ) . Room 12 was lovely and the view perfect . Clay shooting on the Sunday morning (Rutland outdoor pursuits ) was literally a blast . We will be back . And for the people who think this post is fake look at my pictures. We will be back 😉

Fantastic hotel and setting. Lovely staff and great food. Can't complain about anything. We also did clay pigeon shooting with the Rutland outdoor pursuit. Gill and Simon were great, very friendly and brilliant instructors. Fabulous experience, throughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend it.

Bears no resemblance to advertising and website. Very tired hotel with filthy carpets, mould and urine stained floor in dated bathroom, dark and dirty skylights. Loud disco music until after midnight on Sat then noisy wedding guests in corridors. Wierd decor - orange and green walls in corridor. One very old service lift, otherwise climb 60 steps to room. Nowhere comfortable to sit, sofas have gone from drawing room and very few seats in bar. Staff seem depressed and disinterested, no manager in sight. No information on history, spa or activities, in fact no paperwork in room. Golf course has shut, no clay pigeon shooting or falconry. The restaurant serves poor ‘Asda’ quality food. No local products as advertised. Fresh orange juice at breakfast is not ‘fresh’. Drinks are very expensive and 12.5% is added to dverything. It does not meet standard for two red rosettes. After a poor value for a lot of money dinner we did not eat there again. We didn’t use spa and in all spent £700 less than we had budgeted so they lost out. Wonderful building and lovely grounds but clearly in financial difficultu and we wonder if it is getting ready to close down, being asset stripped or what?

Had a wonderful stay for our wedding anniversary. We stayed in a grand room and the view was amazing across the park. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable. Our booking was with the half board option and the food at dinner was delicious. Despite the hotel being full that weekend due to a wedding, the breakfast buffet was very good with a decent selection. Staff were very attentive, polite and friendly. We also used the pool and spa treatments and couldn't fault any of it. We booked the clay pigeon shooting activity with Simon and Jill. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend doing any of their outdoor activities. They are lovely people and made the experience fun.

The hotel grounds are a pleasure to walk around and well kept, the hotel is obviously undergoing some sort of repair as a tarpaulin is covering the ceiling sky light above the main halls stairs so it is very dark, the food was very good in the bar and service was also very good, adding a service charge to everything seems the normal here even when you go to the bar to collect your own drinks. We had and evening meal and breakfast included in our stay, the food at the evening meal was okay nothing special but the beef was cooked to perfection but with an £8 supplement for the privilege, the vegetables were nearly none existent so great if your on a diet and only like one of each veg or you spend £5.50 each on the accompaniments. The bedroom was supposedly a deluxe room of a good size and the bed was very comfortable, however the floor boards creaked on nearly every board we stepped on and made a a terrible noise in the middle of the night if you walked on them, what was worse was that the other rooms next to ours must be the same as we could here creaking floor boards from them every time someone walked about in the night and that disturbs your sleep. The bathroom was the worst I have had to use in years especially at a select hotel, the floor around the toilet was stained on the tiles and the silicon was just yellow and brown, the same was with the basin and the silicon again, the worst was the bath/shower screen the rubber water retainer was just brown and dirty, these are only a few pounds to buy and just lets the bathroom down even more, for the cost to re silicon the bathroom and change the rubber ***** would go a long way to making it look fresher, the staining on the floor I would think will not come off, overall the hotel is a fantastic place to stay but maintenance is not on point for the cost of the rooms. food is okay just very sparse on vegetables, so buy more if you are hungry.

We left this place feeling insulted. I want to start with a positive, the grounds and aesthetics are wonderful. That’s where it stops! The inside is dated, dark and dusty. The food was appalling, costing £24 for a burger that was dry, overcooked and had no seasoning or taste to it. So dry in fact, I had to buy a bottle of water just to get it down. But maybe making it dry is the plan because a bottle of water cost over £5! Out of our whole party, none of our food was nice and we all ordered different dishes. I understand it’s a grand hotel, but charging a significant premium on all your food and drinks is just an insult. For an orange juice, coke, glass of HOUSE red and a whiskey (not top shelf), set me back nearly £40! The worst part of it though, eating in the bar area where you order at the bar (no table service) and a gratuity is added to every single purchase! Why am I giving a mandatory tip for you to input my food into a screen, is this America? For two of the worst plates of food I’ve ever had, paying over £70 is disgusting, insulting and pathetic! Safe to say, I will never be eating or drinking at this place ever again!
