This is a resort hotel that the prices reflect. It is possible to stay at a cheaper hotel in town, but this hotel has resort amenities (daily activities, areas to relax, walking trails, Swimming pool, hot tub, spa, ******, etc) that are available to guests and taking advantage of this a**osphere is what resorts are about. I am happier to have stayed in the more relaxing environment even if only for the one night. We opted for French Lick Springs over West Baden for cost reasons which was a smart move in hindsight. They must be used to many regulars because the front desk staff upon our arrival did not give an introduction to the layout or transportation amenities by- so we discovered on our own (they did point us to our room), The rooms are spacious and quiet. The staff at both resorts were pleasant - several employees stopped to converse which was welcoming. I recommend taking the tour of both hotels on the resort - if you only wish one your, the one on the West Baden was more detailed (deciding which one is based on your interest level). We were impressed with the transportation options to/from West Baden Hotel and resort sites - no car is necessary. Our only disappoin**ent was the restaurant quality. We breakfasted in the Colonnade. What an elegant and spectacular setting for such a drab, lifeless, and poorly serviced restaurant. The hostess turned her back to us after we paid indicating her time with us was done. To get the initial cup of coffee required more than 3 requests and to find a server for the refill I played an impromptu game of hide-and-go-seek —elusive servers, caffeine cravings, and a coffee cup left gasping for help! The breakfast itself was unimaginative- sugar donuts available in the checkout counter of your local Walgreens and containers of yogurt. The cooked food was stacked high in the cafeteria serving trays, but because of the few diners eating it was cold. Why put out 50 scrambled eggs when only 5 diners are in the restaurant? A chef did lack-lustrously prepare fresh omelettes and pancakes. Our dinner in the West Baden Springs Ballard’s (I will review on another page) rated poor for other reasons. I’d say go into town to dine. You will enjoy French Lick Springs most by unwinding and taking advantage of what is on offer!
