La Vista Fujikawaguchiko

The hotel offers a shuttle service to Kawaguchiko Station every half hour or hour. My room faced Mount Fuji directly, which was lovely, but unfortunately the weather wasn't great. I'd definitely stay here again next time. The service and food were both excellent, with 24-hour coffee and self-serve ice cream. Breakfast and dinner were very rich and varied, and I especially want to commend their desserts – they were truly exceptional. There are private and public onsen baths. After a soak, I went downstairs for the free late-night snack, which was ramen tonight. Staying here was such great value!

The hotel offers great views of Mount Fuji, even clearer on good weather days. They even have ramen for a late-night snack. Dinner was French cuisine, and breakfast was a standard buffet.

Avoid at all costs! It's infested with bugs, and the service is terrible if you're not Japanese or white. When I arrived, I was given a room on the 3rd floor with a balcony facing a rooftop and AC vents. I asked for a higher floor, and the front desk pretended not to understand, then switched me to a room on the second floor, first row. That evening, I thought the view was unobstructed and great, and I wondered why this room wasn't fully booked when I moved. The bathroom was on the balcony, and when I went to shower, I found it swarming with thousands of bugs (no wonder the lower floors were empty). I had no choice but to use the public onsen. I hoped it might be better the next day, but in the morning, the balcony was still covered in bugs, and the outdoor bath was also full of them. It was completely unusable, which was a shame given the view. The service was exceptionally poor for Japan. The old man who brought the towels knocked three times within 30 seconds of arriving and had a sour face when I opened the door. In the morning, he completely ignored us downstairs but bowed and enthusiastically greeted white guests with a 'Good morning.'
