My wife and I stayed at the Panorama Hotel just outside Chania, during mid-September 2023, and chose the all-inclusive (AI) package with a full sea view. We were pleasantly surprised to find we were also in the smaller Blue Wing which entitled us to use of a small exclusive pool and bar, see below. The hotel is set above the sea and has splendid views from many areas, such as the pool, the restaurant and many of the rooms. The staff are attentive and efficient and maintained a high standard of cleanliness for the rooms and public areas. ****************************************************************************** The food was generally good with plenty of meat choices although the vegetables, salads and accompaniments were often limited in extent. All-inclusive wines which were very palatable and water were served without delay after being seated. Tables were promptly cleared and reset, so even at busy times, at least a table could usually be found quickly. There are splendid views of the sea and surrounding area from the restaurant . As we discovered, staying in the Blue Wing permitted us to take breakfast at the main pool bar which was quite adequate, not busy and friendly, with some extra treats. ********************************************************************************** The food in the main restaurant was not hot at the best of times and the self-service plates were usually stone cold. The self service area was too small and cramped leading to congestion and queues, allowing the food to become even colder by the time diners were able to return to their table. Unfortunately, there were several cats allowed to parade around the main restaurant and it was not pleasant to see cats doing what cats do whilst we were eating. Smoking is still allowed in restaurants here apparently, as several diners took an after-dinner cigarette. I would prefer a smoke free environment whilst enjoying a meal and was surprised that generally accepted international rules regarding smoking are not applied here. The AI package did seem to be somewhat limited regarding choice of drinks, with many only available at extra cost and the available snacks were rather insubstantial; such as cakes or small sandwiches. ********************************************************************************** Lower down there was the small Blue Wing exclusive pool and bar for “Adults Only”, with subdued music and a restful atmosphere (traffic noise permitting). The area was managed by the Admirable Betty, a well-informed local lady, who provided excellent service, kept the area neat and tidy and provided us with cold flannels, etc. The Admirable Betty, it should also be noted, mixed the best Pina Colada tasted in Crete. **********************************************************************************Although the hotel is built on higher ground and offers excellent views, there is a busy main road running along the coast just below the Blue Wing.
