Eastern & Oriental Hotel

Exceeded expectations, even though I had high hopes. Facilities: Like a hotel straight out of an Agatha Christie novel, with a strong Victorian vibe. Cleanliness: Housekeeping daily. Environment: High ceilings on every floor, very grand. Service: Excellent.

The room was beautifully vintage and spacious, leaving an amazing first impression. However, on the first night, the sheets had stains as pictured, and after reporting it, they were changed the next day. On the morning of the third day, I found what looked like mouse droppings on the balcony floor (pictured in image 4). I recognized them because I used to own hamsters; otherwise, I wouldn't have thought it. But the hotel denied it was mouse droppings, suggesting it might be bird droppings, as they had just disinfected a few days prior. Additionally, at breakfast, a middle-aged female server roughly cleared our plates without asking, making a lot of noise. This contrasted sharply with another younger, seemingly Indian male server who was smiling and polite when offering service. The hotel's response to these issues was just an apology and cleaning the balcony, which felt very perfunctory.

This hotel doesn't live up to its price point at all; it's purely for social media check-ins. 1. **Facilities:** The elevator doors and handrails are of poor quality. You could charitably call it 'distressed,' but honestly, it just feels cheap, with fading, chipped paint, and wobbles. The hotel room doors and toilet seats lack soft-close mechanisms. The toiletries feel cheap and are not what you'd expect for a two-thousand-a-night stay. Even after getting the towels wet, they left a sticky, unrinsed detergent residue on my hands. 2. **Service:** Most high-end hotels offer food reheating services, but not here. The service is very average. While the staff wear professional uniforms, their demeanor feels very casual, not like they've had proper training, whether it's how they walk or their eye contact. 3. **Restaurant:** Most of the dishes in the restaurant are pre-made.

This antique hotel, built in 1885, was a huge disappointment. I specifically came here to stay because of its age. The service wasn't great, and the room amenities were only three-star quality. Even the hotel's arranged airport transfer was just a regular taxi. Its only good point is the fantastic environment; the sea view room offered amazing sunrises and sunsets. That was brilliant!

The breakfast was really good, especially the char kway teow and roti canai. The pool was also very nice!

I didn't experience any of the discrimination or 'bad room' assignments that some online reviews mentioned. The check-in staff spoke Chinese and thoroughly explained all the hotel's facilities. My room had a fantastic sea view, and the hotel itself is beautiful everywhere you look, with staff always being warm and welcoming.

The hotel's location is great, and all the staff provided excellent service. The front desk staff especially left a deep impression on me. On the first night, my room was right next to the elevator, which was quite noisy. I requested a room change on the second day and was given a very satisfactory room. The breakfast was also delicious.

The entire place was clean, and the breakfast was decent; the made-to-order dishes were much better than the pre-made ones. The hotel environment was quiet and had a unique charm.
