Best Western Balgeddie House Hotel

We had a lovely and peaceful weekend at this hotel. One of the best places not far from busy Edinburgh to enjoy a day together with the family. The service is outstanding, and the staff is polite and helpful. We really enjoyed the SPA area with the warm swimming pool and sauna. We will definitely come back to get some relaxation in this place.

Loved the character of the hotel and the grounds were lovely. Our room standard was a bit lower than expected with burst light bulb and general finishing of the room looking a bit tired. The location was perfect for right before our skydive jump at Fife airport.

A few of us from our company have stayed at Balgeddie House (Best Western) multiple times and, for the most part, it has been very good. The venue itself is lovely, a stunning listed building from the early 20th century, set well back from the main road so it is generally quiet. There is plenty of parking, and it is within walking distance of a few restaurants. I was advised not to eat in the hotel restaurant in the evening due to its reputation, so I cannot comment on dinner service. On a previous occasion a suite was available, and it was genuinely excellent. It was a very large, lovely room with a fireplace, armchairs, and a table suitable for games (chess, cards, etc). That stay reflected what this hotel can be at its best. Unfortunately, my most recent stays included two issues that were handled poorly, particularly by the hotel manager (Sarah), which has left me with no confidence in how problems are dealt with when they arise. As a result, our company will not be staying at Balgeddie House going forwards. 1) Breakfast burn and incident handling** At breakfast I burned my index finger on an excessively hot plate that was served without warning. I had to knock on the kitchen door to get anyone’s attention and ask for a wet cloth. The waiter then checked the plate and nearly burned his own hand, commenting that it was “far too hot”. I reported the injury to reception for the accident book, and the handling felt confused and uncertain. Follow-up afterwards was not well managed either, and it became unnecessarily difficult to get clear confirmation that the incident details had been recorded accurately. 2) Room 203 noise, no answer from reception, and dismissive response** On a later stay I was allocated Room 203, which sits above doors below (including a large wooden main door). Late evening and early morning there was repeated loud slamming, plus squeaking and rattling that kept waking me. I tried calling reception when it started so it could be resolved in real time, but no one answered. I reported it to the night porter, Stevie, just after 6am, and he was very understanding and caring. I was moved to Room 204 and slept well there, which strongly suggests the problem was specific to the original room and location. When I raised the issue and asked what would be done about the unacceptable night’s sleep, the manager (Sarah) downplayed it, blamed wind and the building being listed (which does not explain door slamming), and directed me to “send an email” rather than taking ownership and resolving it professionally in person. The overall handling felt argumentative rather than customer-focused. **Positive feedback, where it is due** The leisure facilities are brilliant, and having two dedicated swim lanes is a big plus. The leisure staff are lovely and polite. The changing rooms for the pool are clean and tidy. We enjoyed(mostly) our family trip to this lovely hotel which we hadn’t actually heard of previously. Staff are extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. Our room was comfortable and would have offered a good sleep but for it being sited above the kitchen. Unfortunately we were wakened at 6am seemingly by a jumbo jet taking off near by. But it was in fact the kitchen starting up for the day and the dull continuous noise was in fact the extractor fans pictured. The most disappointing thing was the hotel wasn’t seemingly full so did we have to get this room? The gym and pool are good facilities. Breakfast was good although the staff on duty had to work very hard to keep up with demand. We had an evening meal here. Again staff were very good. We each had different meals. None were too pricey but they did vary in quality. The pasta was excellent but the haddock was more akin to Spoons quality. All in all this was a nice hotel to find and have a short trip to. Deserves a higher score but the disturbed sleep was a disappointment.

My husband and I stayed at the Belgaddie Hotel for 4 nights. We feel we had the best room in the hotel. The room was very spacious and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryer. There was enough space for a couple of comfortable lounge chairs as well as a dining table and chairs to accommodate 4 people. The bathroom facilities were amazing with a corner bath separate shower. The whole team in the hotel from housekeeping to front of house staf were very helpful, professional and friendly. It was a true home away from home. This made our experience very relaxing and enjoyable. I really didn't want to leave. Keep up the great work you're all truly amazing people.

Big disappointment! We were gifted 2 itison vouchers for afternoon tea. I have attached photos to show what was advertised and what you actually get! What you can’t tell from the photos is that the scones are like bricks! Waitress said the scones were made the day before and she refreshed them in the microwave before serving. Each time they were inedible so they had obviously been in too lng! There wasn’t anything else available so it was like it or lump it. I complain through itison who forwarded the reply from the hotel so I have proof of this. Hotel agreed it was substandard and fell way below what it should have been. They apologised. But no replacement or refund was offered! Needless to say we won’t be back!

My room at the Belgeddie House Hotel was huge and in a prime spot, with a massive bay window that looked out onto the impressive grounds at its rear. The room was so impressive that it felt a shame I was there on my own for work and wasn't enjoying a break away with my wife, but that's something to look forward to at some point in the future. As well as providing excellent rooms, the hotel's restaurant provided a very good breakfast and a very enjoyable dinner, which, for me, included the Cullen Skink, followed by the venison. Again, it would be nice to return and enjoy this part of the hotel on a non-business break. Lovely hotel, that is well worth a visit whether for business or pleasure.

On arrival we were greeted by a lovely receptionist who was very friendly and informed us of everything about the hotel. We had a lovely garden room which had a lovely view of the hotel gardens. The room was very spacious and had everything you required eg. Tea and coffee machine facilities, iron and ironing board, toiletries and plenty of storage. The bar had a great selection of drinks. The breakfast facilities were excellent they had a buffet for cereals, pastures, toast and fruit. Hot breakfast was served by staff. The staff in all areas of the hotel were all very pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I would certainly recommend a stay at this hotel.
