My wife and I have stayed here plenty of times over the years and we’ve always enjoyed our stays until now. We normally book a standard room in the courtyard building but this time we decided to go for a superior room and we were in the main building for the first time. Checkin was easy and the receptionist was great. The room was large with a huge comfy bed. The bathroom had a good sized shower but the shelf above the sink had come loose and couldn’t be used (everything would just slide off). I let reception know but we’ll come onto that. After checking in we had a few drinks at the bar and the staff were all excellent. Our problems began the next morning when the shower ran cold. Because we were nearing the end of the breakfast period we both had a VERY quick cold wash and went down to breakfast. Again breakfast was good and plenty of veggie options for my wife. As we were waiting for our hot food order I decided I’d let reception know about the lack of hot water problem and the wobbly shelf. The impression the receptionist left me with was underwhelming, and when I was asked why I didn’t let them know immediately so they could sort it out, I advised we would have been late for breakfast and left it at that. The receptionist did apologise but it honestly felt forced. On checkout we weren’t asked if we had a nice stay which annoyed my wife who reminded the receptionist about the problem. And at that point we felt like second rate citizens who made it up as “none of the other rooms complained and they all use the same boiler”. That annoyed me to the point that I reminded the receptionist that we were the customers and I didn’t appreciate being made out to be liars…I was told at this point I was trying to argue with her???? Anyway, my wife (quite correctly) asked the receptionist if the hotel would be prepared to do anything because of the inconvenience, but we were informed again if we’d come down straight away they could have done something (not sure what given the time frame). We weren’t after a refund, even a discount off our next stay as regular customers would have been appreciated but not even a proper apology was forthcoming. It’s such a shame as this experience has tarnished the stay and I doubt we’ll be back again
