On check in I was charged for my room despite having pre-paid online. When this mistake was noticed by myself it was rectified and a refund was given but was made to feel like I was causing them hassle.
Unfortunately the hotel has seen better days and are short staffed so only a car very dinner was available, which was disappointing. The restaurant staff who were there were pleasant and hard working.

As others have mentioned, this hotel is in need of some TLC in places, but not enough to distract from the overall experience. The staff were all friendly and efficient, the food excellent, the rooms clean and comfortable. I cannot recognise this as being the same hotel that some of the negative reviews portray. I would happily stay there again

Another lovely stay at the Cumbria Grand for the Tribute Weekend. Hotel was lovely and warm. We come three or four times a year and have never had an issue with cleanliness of the hotel. It is very big and very old, and yes, needs a bit of TLC here and there, but this can be forgiven as it gives the hotel character. Far better than a souless Premier Inn. Entertainment each night was good. Food was excellent each evening, spoilt for choice from the carvery. Lovely staff and enjoy chatting with the other guests who are always friendly. Back for the tribute weekend in October and booked for Twixtmas.

On arrival, the Reception desk was very shabby as it's undergoing a refurb- which is desperately needed as the decor is very dated and clearly spent. There are easy access rooms available and the corridors are particularly wide aswell. Our evening meal was pretty average, but value for money at £25pp for three courses. There is no accommodation for Vegans, however. The service we received was excellent and we were made to feel extremely welcome during dinner. The room however, was very unclean and we purchased our own bedding in town due to a distrust of the cleanliness of the sheets. The decor is again, very worn and dated, with lots of cobwebs and dust on furnishings and in the corners of the room. The carpets were shabby and we didn't feel particularly relaxed as a result. I have attached some pictures depicting the poor hygiene, which ruined the experience for us.

My wife & I stayed a the Cumbria Grand for a second time & it certainly won’t be our last. The hotel is located in a lovely area & within walking distance to a picturesque promenade & small town. We visited Ambleside & Windermere while staying here, both of which were within a 30 minute drive. There is plenty of free parking outside of the hotel. Our 3 course meal on our first evening was cooked to perfection with generous portions, and the staff were all super friendly & happy to help. Breakfast too was as good as you’d expect from the Lake District. Our room & bathroom were both spacious with a great view of the bay. The shower could have been more powerful but everything was clean & cosy.

We held a charity fundraising event here last Saturday in the Victorian Ballroom for about 150 people. We had a fantastic evening with live music and a DJ. Everyone had a great night with lots of singing and dancing. There was pie and peas served in between acts, which was delicious. I have to say from my the first meeting with the manager Mark back in September through until the conclusion, the communication and attention to detail has been superb. The planned layout of the tables with the lighting and decor in this Victorian Ballroom made for a wonderful occasion. The feedback to me has been nothing but praise. Some couples stayed over but I didn’t myself but again did say to me what a lovely venue and stay they had. I would definitely have another event here and would recommend anyone to go and see for themselves.

Stayed one night with my sister to attend a funeral. Comfortable, warm, plenty hot.water. Easy to walk into Grange or along prom from hotel. Great views across bay & sunrise from breakfast room. Woodland walk signposted but didn’t have time to explore

I have visited this hotel a few times over the years. The rooms are always clean, staff are so friendly l and the food is delicious. They also have fantastic entertainment on a weekly basis. If you do have the chance to visit the wonderful Cumbria grand hotel make sure to try the amazing afternoon tea .
