Armalong Winery Chalets

The ‘chalets’ are a bit of a misnomer - they are very large modern studio apar**ents, two apar**ents per building, perched high above the Tamar Ridge vineyard. Fully equipped, with kitchen appliances and utensils, lounge chairs, large king bed, bathroom with large soaking tub and separate shower, and balcony with table, chairs and a chaise. It’s a place to chill out and wind down. Imbibe from your favourite tipple on the balcony and watch the late summer sunset. Groceries are available a few kms away at the supermarket in Legana; we stayed Saturday and Sunday evenings and enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch at the nearby (4 km) Evenfall restaurant. There is no signage to the chalets - the word Armalong doesn’t appear anywhere. We were glad to have arrived during daylight hours and in no hurry to check-in. The chalets are part of the Tamar Ridge Winery - just follow the signage to the winery off Waldhorn Drive, which is off the West Tamar Highway. The chalets are individually owned, so you may see them advertised by different names on various accommodation sites - Armalong Chalets, Tamar Ridge Apar**ents, Tamar River Apar**ents. It seems to me as though they are all the same apar**ents/chalets. Quite confusing. The less than 5 minute walk to the Tamar Ridge winery Tasting Room, with its stunning view of the Tamar estuary, is well worth the time. Perfect for an hour or so on a Sunday afternoon.

Had a booking reservation. Helen states the key was under the matt, which was not the case. We had to find emergency accommodation elsewhere for the night. Helen did not answer phone calls or reply to text messages. Save yourself the disappoin**ent and do not book here.

Beautiful view from the chalet. Good location for access to main roads for exploring the area. Very comfortable bed.

The property is outstanding and one of the nicest places we have stayed. Stunning views and proximity to Tamar Ridge Cellars a bonus. Only lighting needs attention. Highly recommend.

We stayed 3 nights while my husband had some meetings in Launceston. This sunny and warm little unit was a great place for me to relax whilst he was working as I recover from an illness. We were in unit 10 and the furnishings and bed were very comfortable and extremely clean. The unit looks out of a lovely view of the river and the afternoon sun made the room naturally cozy. There is traffic noise but for me personally I didn't mind this at all as it is distant - not past your front door type traffic and in a way I find this comforting when combined with the view. We did find out this is one of 2 roads into Launceston so you would expect some traffic. The only weird thing that happened was I was visited by someone checking the units who noticed our heat lamps were on in the bathroom (yes I did have them on whilst having a bath) the bath has a lovely view over the river. She knocked on the door and asked me to make sure we turned the heat lamps off when not in the bathroom as the heat lamps burn out. I felt like I was being chastised and was quite uncomfortable as she had quite an aggressive manner. After years of travelling for pleasure and business I have never experienced something like this. Perhaps there have been issues in the past but the sins of previous guests should never be the responsibility of current guests and to my knowledge having a bath in the middle of the day with the heat lamps on is not an offence! Feedback is always an opportunity to reflect and consider approaches. Apart from this small incident, these units are excellent value for money in a lovely location.

Convenient to tamar valley. Good base. Kitchen tap blew off and soaked everything. Helen and Mike were very prompt to address problem. Mike did mention we should get a bottle of champagne and a new hairdo to make up for the soaking. But nothing eventuated. Plumber turned up the next evening but blamed the tap manufacturer. Bathroom vanity was also very loose and he just put on some silacon but it was still very loose. Interuptions were not very relaxing. It was my wife's birthday

Spectacular views of the Tamar. A cosy feel in a very well appointed apar**ent. Cleanliness was clearly a priority. Easy check in and out.

Just spent two nights in a cabin in this winery. Have to say this was by far the best accommodation we had in the two weeks we have been in Tasmania. Spotless, well presented big room with excellent bathroom. View over Tamar river is stunning. Planning another trip to Tasmania next year and will definitely be booking in here again but for longer. Fully self contained semi-detached units in Tamar Valley, overlooking vines and Tamar River. Comfortable beds, large bathroom, kitchen and washing machine in each unit. Balcony access with amazing views. Winery and Gin Distillery on site.
