The Old Bank House Hotel

No central heating so booking here during the winter not advisable. Of a two night stay we had to book elsewhere at the last minute for the second night because the room was far too cold and there was no hot water. Communication is awkward as no direct contact at the premises so we had a drawn out third party dialogue through ***********. After 12 days we did get a refund, it seems to us the problems in dealing with the refund were mainly down to *********** not the owner.

We had this hotel booked for months. Then they cancelled 3 days before our intended visit. Apparently they are going to alterations- why the short notice of cancellation I have no idea. We are really disappointed- I would advise to not book here as communication is a serious issue- a friend lives locally and found out the reason for cancellation- they didn’t even answer the phone we tried calling.

In a nutshell – the accommodation we were provided with at the Old Bank House was not fit for safe human habitation. We booked a room in January via *********** for two nights when the outside temperature was -5 and interestingly enough the temperature inside the room was very similar due to the fact that the hotel has no heating at all (and no hot water either although plenty of cold as once you turn on the shower you can’t turn it off). After a very miserable late arrival first night we had to book in elsewhere for the second night. There was nowhere to complain on the night as we were literally the only people in the hotel – no staff, no other guests and no means of contacting anyone. The only point of contact was the rented out restaurant in the basement and they shut up shop at 8.30pm. Think it will be okay to book here in the summer when the heating and hot water don’t matter? Well, probably not as the customer service scores a complete zero so if you have any issues don’t expect anyone to care less. The hotel refused (via ***********) to give us any refund whatsoever and refused to answer our messages that we sent through the ***********. The contact numbers for them provided by *********** don’t answer or don’t exist. Our recommendation – there are several dog boarding establishments on the island, try booking yourself in there instead of the Old Bank House, the accommodation will undoubtedly be more comfortable.

Not good value at all £110 per night . Bathroom terrible . Shower a trickle , sink in the bedroom . Furniture wobbly . All needs a big update . 11 plastic plants in our room . It says they have a restaurant and bar . They are 2 separate companies so the bar was closed by 8.30 each night . The room was very clean but no toilet rolls on our last day . There was a poster saying they are working on the rooms. That’s really good but totally overpriced for the state they are in currently. Also no reception. Really hard to get someone to help .

We had a two night stay. All staff are super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We were shown to our room but it was really hot, the sun had been on the window all afternoon. Although they had provided a fan we asked if they had another room on the other side of the building and were immediately moved to another lovely room. Tea and coffee making facilities are in the rooms along with individually wrapped cookies and quality toiletries. The breakfast is included and there is plenty of choice with vegan and veggie options. Sweet outside area for eating or drinks and apparently they have great quiz nights at the weekend. Really lovely! We will definitely be back.

We only booked four nights at this property. We were delayed (we called multiple times to alert them beforehand but no one answered the phone). When we finally found the place, nobody came to open the door. Then we were given the worst twin room (it was meant for parents with kids). Next day we complained and were promised a refund (that has not happened).They changed our room into a room we originally booked. But they ran out of pillow cases! How can a ‘hotel’ run out of essentials?! The breakfast was served from 8.30 which is too late..The music was too loud and the room was full of flies. The staff was just standing behind the bar chatting, drinking coffee and staring into their laptop. After a while we were noticed and someone came to take our order. We had to wait again. There is no buffet breakfast. You have to order it from the menu. Very inconvenient especially when you have to catch a plane/ferry! Every time we met the lady from the office, she kept promising a refund to us. We are still waiting for it! The property needs upgrade in every single aspect (beds and mattresses were old and uncomfortable, en-suite bathroom was just a corridor and you had to shut the door if you wanted to get to the toilet, the shower was stuck, a sink was in the bedroom, no blackout curtains, walls are thin and you can hear noise from the corridor, wardrobe had holes in the ceiling...). The staff needs more training. We would not stay in this property again and would not recommend it.

Had a lovely stay here comfortable clean rooms. The food is home cooked and delicious reasonably priced. A 10 minute walk to the beautiful harbour and beech .It may be a 2 star hotel but the manager Gabby and her staff are positively 5 star. There is ample free parking and a lovely outdoor area advise to book in advance
