The hotel is very nice, the staff are very friendly and kind. Especially the waiter Carlos from the Plaza Atlantica. We spend a few nice evenings right there and had a wonderful chat with him, as well as his service. The entertainment also was lovely.

Had a lovely time at the Melia but my husband was not very happy with the food at the buffet restraunt entertainment was very good and pools and gardens lovely and the suites were lovely but not much room for cases when you are unpacking and packing.

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Red-level section of the hotel and find it difficult to sum up our impressions. Some of the negatives are in fact aspects of the positives. Positives. The hotel is beautiful, immaculately kept with gorgeous gardens, which include a huge ornamental lake which is stocked with small tropical fish and some koi carp. It boasts an enormous saltwater infinity pool surrounded by beautiful lawns, with an abundance of sun-loungers and towels. Despite occupancy running at about 90%, there was no problem finding a sunbed, and there were separate areas for children, and adults only, and even for silence. There are several other fresh-water pools, including one for red-level guests only. Service was superb, literally the only fault(!) I experienced was a waitress omitting to put out a spoon!. The butlers at Red-Level were uniformly unfailingly helpful and courteous, and always happy to take my wife in a wheelchair whenever she wanted to go anywhere (see below). Dylan in particular was amazing. Negatives The place is HUGE, extending over 110 acres, so getting about if, like my wife, you have mobility problems, is difficult. Taking my wife from our room, in a wheelchair, to the spa, took 12 minutes at a good walking pace! The restaurants are oddly organised. Although the Buffet is open morning and evening, other restaurants are open at different times which varies from week to week is you have to consult the plan provided. Although the Red-Level building where we stayed has 2 restaurants, La Terrasse and the Bistro, 2 or 3 nights a week neither was open and one had to go over to the main hotel building to eat, about a 5 minute walk. Some of the decisions as to menus and service are distinctly odd. The Duo steakhouse had only 2 types of steak on the menu and one of those was raw, steak tartare. Similarly, the Gourmet restaurant La Terrasse served fish in thick deep ceramic dishes so that you had to point your knife and fork downwards to cut up your food and this was made worse by having cutlery which looked elegant but had handles like pencils which were difficult to hold. Other things just seemed odd. The ice cream shop by the children’s pool was not open in the morning; Although the Red-Level building had a lounge and provided free water, coffee and tea, there was no bar and thus nowhere to sit with an after-dinner drink and chat with fellow guests. A specific problem was that almost all the restaurants were wholly or partially open to the fresh air. Unfortunately this allowed access to the flies from the surrounding banana plantations, and also to the birds who were totally unafraid of humans and would happily fly on to your chair or table and attempt to share your meal. Summing up A great hotel for young families, who were much in evidence with lots of happy children. Not for you if you have mobility problems. Could be greatly improved with a few managerial decisions such as opening t
