Moorea Sunset Beach

Let's get something clear from the start: you can't see the sunset from this hotel. And none of the rooms are on the beach. There is beach ACCESS (a short stroll). But if you are picking looking out your window and seeing and hearing the ocean in the pictures here, you're in the wrong place. You can't. I'd only recommend this place for budget-minded travelers that have access to a rental car and want to cook at home. Otherwise, it barely qualifies as a "hotel." There is no maid service, no on-site food/breakfast, and a reception desk that closes at 5 pm. Our room was on the second story of what Americans know as a Motel 6 style. Very basic IKEA-ish furniture. Very odd layout (referenced repeatedly here), which can be problematic (see below). The TV had one English channel (Fox News, really?!) and no directions on how to use the remote. It overlooked a "garden" that was a few trees and bushes with a dirt road thru it for cars that were going to the bungalows on the beach. Zero privacy. Rooms were clean upon arrival. Unfortunately I became ill here. So I spent the better part of two days trying desperately to get sleep. There are chickens everywhere, crowing all thru the night (not just at daybreak). I've been to other islands where chickens are commonplace, but there is zero attempt here to control them so they won't wake up guests. I slept with my noise cancelling headphones on. The next morning at 8 a.m. there was drilling right outside my window, as the hotel decided that this was the ideal time to start a repair project. Since I hadn't slept (see chickens), I called. Two hours later, they stopped and told me they were finished. But no. Again the next morning, the same exact thing. I tried to explain, politely, that I came to Moorea to relax, not to be on a farm or in the middle of a construction project. The receptionists were nice but sadly ineffective. The closest place for breakfast was at the hotel next door, which has a nice beachfront place. But it's crazy expensive ($12 for a glass of juice; $30 for a breakfast, $45-$50 for lunch). It's a hike on a dark road to anywhere else for dinner, so rent a car to be prepared to shell out big bucks for a taxi (It cost us $60 for a taxi to get here from the port). If you are going to Moorea, do yourself a favor and find a place where you can enjoy the ocean, actually see it, and not be penny=pinched.

Stay at Hilton i was robbed of 2800 in cash in a backpack I left unattended in my locked room. We went to dinner for one hour in the morning I realized the money missing I went to check car when I seen police and realized 4 other rooms were robbed only of cash and no damage to the hotels doors amazing no one from hotel said a word other then there not responsible

This place is the perfect location to enjoy one of the most beautiful beach of Moorea. Walking distance from the apar**ent (there's bungalows too), it's a little resort, feeling almost like home. There's a kitchen so you can make your own coffee and meals. The only improvement point will be to offer a few dishwasher pads (1 or 2) and coffee pods (2 or 3) so you don't have to go to the office to buy them. Other than I highly recommend this place.

Rented a 1st floor apar**ent. It was very modern and clean. The bedroom was air conditioned but rest of the apt was not. Moorea in March is hot, both by night and day, so a/c sleeping space is essential. Lack of a/c in living space did not matter too much as when I returned to the apt of an evening I spent most of my time relaxing out on the large and rather splendid balcony. The apt has all you need for pretty much everything: kitchen equipment, washing machine, etc etc. On the downside, there was a bad smell from the toilet and from the utility area which must indicate some sort of problem with the drains. There is no room safe, but there is a good lock on the door and a double lock on the balcony doors plus electric shutters, so despite what I have read in one or two reviews, I had no concerns about security during my time here. Despite sitting out on the balcony into the evening with the lights on, I was not troubled by the local insect life. The location is peaceful, the buildings being set among pleasant grounds. I was literally one minute’s stroll from the excellent beach where there is a place where you can rent kayaks etc. Unless you simply want the beach, you will need to rent a car if you stay here, but that is true generally in Moorea I think. This place is the right side of the island for easy driving to good hiking places: Rotui, Opunohu trails. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. It provides great quality self-catering lodging, at a fine location, and at a decent price.

We are so glad we chose to stay at the Residence Moorea Sunset Beach. The spacious garden suite we stayed in was well equipped for our 3 nights. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and enjoy meals. We found that the air conditioner in the bedroom was enough to cool the entire unit if the windows were closed. It's in a great location near shopping and on a beautiful beach near great snorkeling and the motus and shark and stingray area. We loved having our own outside shower to rinse off after the beach, and beach towels are provided. The loungers and dining table on our private patio were wonderful. It was also perfect having an in-unit washer and dryer. There is lots of parking and it's easy to come and go while having good security. The front office staff is helpful and kind. We'll definitely be back!

Great location by the beach, very good stay overall! The beach is called sunset beach but mostly facing North. I also wish they had coffee pods and laundry detergent included with the coffee and washing machines.
