I didn't stay here, but did run a business event. The Maitlandfield has recently employed an events Manager called Laura. She is a real asset to the business. Her professionalism and advice was invaluable. All the staff were welcoming, and I will use the events space again in the future.

Stayed here for 4 night as part of a group. The staff were so friendly and helpful even providing breakfast for an early start in the morning. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed with everything you need for somewhere to sleep. Rooms were spotless and the food was of a high standard which was well presented and hot when serving such a large number of us at once. Even provided facilities to dry of our golfing gear. Would select to stay here again as close to all the main golf clubs and courses in East Lothian.

Likes, Bed was comfortable, breakfast was good, staff were friendly. Dislikes. Property looks abandoned from the outside, twin room was tiny. The bathroom was extremely cold due to gaps behind toilet letting outside air blow through. There was a smell of damp in the dining area where breakfast was served

Stayed here with my daughter. Grew up in Haddington so know the area really well and other pubs and restaurants. It’s a wee bit dated, but I think the owners are dealing with that. We booked superior room and it was really nice. The staff were amazing and so kind. Our stay was perfect. Prosecco ordered to watch rugby in our room, after a chilly walk round the town. We did not eat here in the evening, but the breakfast was really nice. The welcoming staff and our lovely room will make us come back for our next Haddington reunion.

Avoid this hotel at all costs ! On arrival on Christmas Eve we were told the chef had the following day off as it was Christmas Day and he had family, the owner was cooking breakfast - first red flag. On entering the bedroom a notice had been placed on the desk saying there would be no housekeeping for the next few days and if you required any coffee etc to ask at reception!. There was half a toilet roll in the delapidated bathroom and one tissue in the hankie box! So no housekeeping whatsoever - Second very big red flag totally unacceptable. Shambles at breakfast the following morning one waitress who was doing her very best but was running out of everything and we had to wait 30 minutes to be served. Who runs a hotel at Christmas with no staff but charge full rate . I stayed there last year at Christmas and whilst the hotel is very run down there was plenty of staff and a friendly atmosphere. This year was a totally different story. On the day of departure check out is at 11.00 am my daughter was running late so I approached the Manager asked for extra time and he said no rush he was driving to Glasgow but ok I thanked him said we will be ready at 11.15am. Our door was then knocked at 10.45 and the wife entered (she was cleaning the rooms) I said not quite ready but your husband has agreed we will be ready by 11.15. It all kicked off then, she said I had to be out by 11 as she was driving to Glasgow I have never been met with so much aggression, she spoke over me I complained that I have never been spoken to like this I am a guest and mentioned the lack of staff , she said Management decision, I asked if she was the owner and she denied this but she is the owner with her husband. I walked away whilst she was shouting she had to drive to Glasgow! She also said I know we will have complaints. I approached the husband whilst leaving and he was very aggressive too, again I walked away . I have never experienced anything like it and have stayed in many hotels worldwide over the years. The waitress was lovely but the owners were horrendous and should not be running a hotel . , no staff to look after paying guests and a dreadful attitude . There is little choice of places to stay in Haddington but I certainly won’t ever be staying there again !!! Avoid .

From the outside this property looks run down but nothing could be further from the truth once you’re inside. Apparently council tardiness is responsible for the lack of external refurb as the building is listed. The rooms are spotless and very well provisioned in every sense. The dining room serves excellent food for both breakfast and other meals and at reasonable prices. Ignore the facade and do yourself a favour!!
