Peninsula Hotel (Haikou Qilou Old Street Branch)

Post-surgery recovery ruined by a moldy room; multiple attempts to resolve the issue failed, only offered a discount in exchange for a good review. After my C-section, I specifically chose Haikou for a relaxing recovery, but my stay was unexpectedly disappointing. ① Promotional offer not disclosed in advance I called the night before check-in to inquire about a "buy one, get one free" cruise deal, only to be told it was unavailable due to maintenance. Why wasn't this restriction clearly stated on the Ctrip page? ② Lack of directions The hotel entrance was under construction, with no signs whatsoever, making it extremely difficult to find my way. ③ Indifferent front desk service The front desk staff's attitude during check-in was unenthusiastic and lacked basic warmth. ④ Severe moldy odor in the room directly caused physical discomfort (Core Issue) Upon entering the room on the 8th floor, the strong odor triggered severe vomiting. ⑤ Perfunctory problem-solving, attempting to buy silence with incentives From check-in until nearly check-out, the odor problem was never truly resolved. No staff member inquired about my recovery, and instead, they offered a "cancel order + 15% off three nights" solution, seemingly trying to prevent a negative review. I felt no genuine effort to solve the problem, only anxiety about managing reviews. ⑥ The only commendable detail After I vomited, the hotel concierge helped with my luggage and assisted with a room change, showing responsibility, which deserves credit. However, at check-out, I was made to wait in the lobby for over ten minutes, during which they repeatedly pressured me for a good review. After I refused, their attitude immediately changed; ultimately, I checked out without any resolution. Summary: My post-surgery recovery turned into physical and mental torment. The core issue (room odor) was avoided, replaced by "PR handling" of potential negative feedback. I hope the hotel addresses its hygiene problems rather than focusing on controlling reviews. The hotel environment is good, clean and hygienic. The service is attentive. It's worth a stay.

The rooftop terrace is highly recommended within the hotel; the air and views are excellent, offering a comfortable vista. There's also a coffee shop, perfect for relaxing. The rooms are clean and tidy. Nearby attractions include the Qilou Old Street and Xitian Temple. You can also visit Haikou Bay to photograph the sunset; the fiery clouds are most beautiful at dusk. I particularly enjoyed the Jufuan Laoba Tea shop not far behind the hotel—both the presentation and taste were excellent. The hotel is located in the city center, making it convenient to get around.

This is a hotel for someone like me who loves reading. The hotel lobby lounge area has a business area, and you can also visit the nearby Yundong Library or Hainan Provincial Library, but Yundong Library has a better view, being by the sea, where you can watch the sunset. It's about a 5km walk to Wanlv Park, which I've heard is Haikou's natural oxygen bar. I especially liked the hotel's rooftop terrace; the view was fantastic, and it even had a small swimming pool—perfect for enjoying the breeze in the summer. The room space was generally sufficient, quite large compared to other hotels I've stayed in. Everything was smartly controlled, and the hotel was clean. Parking is free; remember to scan the parking code at the front desk. The services offered are also explained. A particularly useful item is the duty-free shop voucher, which I can use to buy some souvenirs.

It was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay. The service was excellent from the moment I entered the hotel. A receptionist even helped me unload a huge box of mangoes from my car. I came specifically for the Hainan beach, which is about 15 kilometers from the hotel. Since the beach isn't in the city center, there's a local specialty, "Lao Ba Cha" (a type of Hainanese tea), right outside the hotel. They have a wide variety of options, some of which were new to me. In the evening, you can enjoy a meal at a nearby beach restaurant while watching the sunset – it looks very photogenic. The hotel is well-equipped, with a gym and laundry facilities. Surprisingly, they even have a table tennis table and ping-pong table. The cleanliness was good; I hope they maintain this level of hygiene. I would definitely choose this hotel again next time I'm in Haikou.

I spent some time in Hainan, and this hotel was quite satisfactory and comfortable. The TV in the room was large, and watching movies while lying down and casting was very pleasant. It's newly opened, with a slightly luxurious decor and plenty of space; there was room for all kinds of luggage. It's about a 10-minute bike ride to the Qilou Old Street. When I checked in, it was close to May Day, so it was quite crowded and lively. The hotel thoughtfully provided a complimentary photoshoot of Qilou Old Street, saving me the trouble of taking my own pictures. Next to Qilou Old Street is the Xitianmiao Snack Street, with many local delicacies and snacks. I heard many of these are long-established shops with excellent food. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit Qilou Old Street; it's definitely worth a try. Overall, it was a great experience.

The room was clean and had coffee, which I appreciated! The staff were quick to deliver things, and there was a gym and laundry room available, as well as a small swimming pool. The beach is about ten kilometers away. A convenient place to buy fruit is near the hotel; they have a great variety and I could easily pack some to take home.

The hotel service was excellent, and the butler was very attentive. It was a very nice hotel.
