I came to spend a solo trip in VA by myself after a particularly stressful season. I thought about finding a cabin in the wilderness of southwest NC or in the mountains somewhere, but then this lovely little property came on to my radar. I must say, Pickett and Mike care for an amazing family property in southern VA, which has been in her family since the 1800s. I stayed in the renovated library, with a bed at one side and a wall of old books on the other. For a writer and nerd like me, I was in heaven. Additionally, I struck up a few lovely conversations with Mike, a jazz pianist in his retirement years, since I am also a musician. Between the leisurely breakfasts, laid back atmosphere of the house, and Pickett’s fantastic cooking, I was able to kick start my precious one week vacation time with the privacy I found at Oak Grove. Lastly, there are binders in various places around the house with info about the area and its local restaurants, one which was in my room and another that was on the coffee table in the parlor, adjacent Mike’s Yamaha grand piano. Pickett was also a wealth of knowledge about the area and could answer any questions I had that were not spoken to by the info binders. I unhesitatingly recommend and strongly enjoin you to stay at Oak Grove Bed and Breakfast; I enjoyed it immensely and I believe you will, as well.
