Banyan Tree Hangzhou

Environment: The environment is really superb. I booked a water villa, and the hotel upgraded me to a deluxe water villa, which had a better location and was closer to the hotel lobby. The balcony in the room overlooked the lake, and you could feed fish and ducklings from the balcony railing. There were so many koi in the hotel, some even bigger than the ducks, which was really fun. Service: Every staff member I encountered was super nice. When my child mentioned that the snacks delivered to the room were delicious, they specially sent two extra portions that afternoon. When I checked out, they even prepared some for me to take away, which was incredibly touching! Thumbs up, thumbs up! Food: The breakfast area isn't big, but it's delicious! There's a wide variety of bread, and both Chinese and Western breakfast options are very rich. Even if you go to eat after 9 am, there's no long queue; it's quiet with fewer people. We had dinner at the Baiyun Restaurant, which was also very good, costing a little over 200 yuan per person, which was quite reasonable. Facilities: The hotel is indeed not new anymore, as it has been open for a long time, but it's very well maintained. And this Chinese style just looks ancient and elegant, which I personally really like. Rowboat: Three of us took the hotel's rowboat. It was 400 yuan for an hour to charter the boat, which is indeed a bit more expensive than outside, but the advantage is no queues, no exposure to the sun, and there wasn't a second boat on the outer lake waterway, so we had a private secret retreat all to ourselves – so comfortable!

This Banyan Tree hotel is nestled within the Xixi Wetland, and the overall environment is truly exceptional. We booked a 'Clear Water' room on the second floor, and everywhere you look, there's lush greenery. Despite the rain these past couple of days, the hotel offered plenty of activities. The pool was great, and Ms. Olive provided excellent service, helping us with all sorts of issues. We'll definitely be back to stay again.

This is the fourth Banyan Tree hotel our family has stayed at. The hotel is nestled next to Xixi Wetland, not far from West Lake Scenic Area, offering a tranquil escape from the bustle. The Chinese garden design is absolutely stunning. As always, the service was impeccable; during a typhoon, they frequently provided golf cart shuttles, cleaned the room, and even filled the hot tub for us – all very thoughtful and attentive. The crayfish buffet was delicious. The room was also great, very private and soundproof. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

The bathroom floor had cigarette ash, and the overall cleanliness wasn't great. However, the facilities and environment felt good overall, as expected from Banyan Tree. Compared to other Banyan Tree locations, the service and facilities were a bit inferior. We took a traditional punt boat ride, which cost 400 yuan per hour. It was nice for taking photos of the kids, and the misty rain added a lovely江南 (Jiangnan) charm.

Although the hotel is a bit old, the hardware is generally well-maintained. However, the cleanliness needs improvement, especially on the balcony where the railings were dusty – even though it's an outdoor area, it still needs better upkeep! Inside, the diamond-patterned room divider, which was trendy back in the day, is indeed hard to clean, but I'm sure the housekeeping department will be able to handle it once they notice it ✊. The breakfast selection is limited; it's filling, but doesn't quite match the hotel's star rating. What truly stood out, however, was the exceptional service. From the concierge to the front desk, the restaurant staff, and even the occasional encounter with housekeeping, everyone was warm, polite, and attentive. Olive, who I contacted via WeChat, was incredibly responsive and efficient in handling any requests, even those I just casually mentioned. For someone who values service above all else, this more than made up for the shortcomings I noted earlier. 😂

The room was very spacious and clean. The TV was a bit old, but everything else was well worth the price. We arrived at the hotel at 2 AM, and the front desk staff was incredibly patient, even contacting a colleague to help us with an extra bed. The hotel staff also delivered our takeaways to the room throughout our stay. It's a highly recommended hotel for a relaxing getaway.

Banyan Tree Hangzhou Xixi is like a secluded paradise nestled within the wetlands, where the white walls and black tiles blend seamlessly with nature. In the mornings, I fed the koi by the lake and watched the white ducks swim by. Our butler, Olivia, thoughtfully explained all the hotel activities. From the shuttle driver to the cleaning staff, every employee at Banyan Tree provided meticulous service. Every detail exudes tranquility and luxury, truly a five-star experience!

Major disappointment!!! We stayed in the Shuiyue Court Twin Suite. The room decor was decent, but there were thresholds inside the room, posing a tripping hazard for seniors, which is quite unsuitable. The main disappointment was the overall service quality for a hotel at this price point. Apart from a very few individual staff members who were good, there was virtually no service, and the management was a complete mess. The scenic area management was chaotic; upon arrival, guests had to wait at a designated spot for a shuttle bus, instead of hotel staff being there to greet them. Hotel signage was incredibly confusing, and we even had to carry our own luggage up stairs. We later discovered, after two nights, that all of this could have been avoided; the front desk and shuttle service were simply terrible and gave completely wrong directions. When going out, the front desk service also failed to provide clear guidance. Following their instructions, we stood in 39-degree heat for nearly half an hour waiting for a car, which again could have been avoided; it was entirely due to their misleading directions. The buffet restaurant was another major disappointment! There wasn't much variety for dinner, and crucially, some seating areas were so stuffy and hot that you couldn't sit for long! Doesn't the restaurant management know about this problem? We left after less than an hour at dinner! Moreover, it was often hard to find staff at some of the food stations – excellent (sarcasm intended)! Apart from the Instagram-worthy photos you can take (like those posted by 'influencers'), there's nothing else at this hotel. The outdoor balcony was unusable; it was too hot and there were too many mosquitoes! The balcony in our room looked just like the pictures – completely bare. The pool was tiny; it felt full with more than 10 people. Even the corridors inside the hotel didn't have enough air conditioning. I deeply regret booking two nights! Luckily, the next hotel we booked wasn't a disappointment. If you're only looking to take a few 'fake' photos or shoot a video to show off, or if you're doing paid promotion, then yes, you could stay here. But if you're looking for a relaxing vacation, this is an absolute disaster!! The management is a mess, and it's impossible not to be frustrated! The service was the absolute worst of any similarly priced hotel I've ever stayed at!!! No exaggeration!! I will not be coming back!!
