Very expensive for a very average meal. No ambiance and bar cold and scruffy. The smallest, cheapest paper napkins. The photos of the bar and restaurant bear no resemblance to the reality. Example being there are NO tablecloths. I was so disappointed and it spoilt our 2 nights in Harlech.

Before we had got through the front door we were approached by the proprietor with one of his large dogs in a far from welcoming and unfriendly manner. He told us that they do not serve food to our grandchildren. We said that we knew but only wanted drinks. He rudely accused us of being rude. Sadly we proceeded to order a round of excessively expensive drinks. The bar was unheated and cold. We were the only customers. He repeated his false accusation of our rudeness. They present themselves as a "dog friendly"establishment. Be aware that the same welcome is not given to paying customers, especially families with young children. We will not be going there again. Avoid it.

Great place to stay, short walk to the beach, near the town, lots of car parking. Really friendly, helpful staff, great bar for pre dinner drinks, and a truly entertaining host, very knowledgeable about local area. Amazing food in the restaurant (evening meal and breakfast were lovely), accompanied by huge selection of whiskey, gins, cognacs etc. Room was v clean with huge bed. Best of all dogs are welcomed enthusiastically. Will definitely stay again.

Its not often I would write a bad review but i feel others need warning on this horrendous hotel. Like another review on here I could not agree more. We arrived in good time to walk our dog & hoped to have a relaxing birthday drink at the bar beforehand but couldn’t even do that as wasn’t even open. The hotel looked run down & completely empty. It was. We were then met by a member of staff who let us in to a very odd atmosphere and eventually showed us to our room. He then came into the room without authority which was very uncomfortable!! It said online it was nearly fully booked and yet it was completely empty so that’s false advertising for a start. We then took our dog for a walk hoping some other people may of arrived by the time we came back. But no still no guests & it was freezing in our room. When it was time for our dinner reservation we went downstairs where we were immediately told to hurry up. After a short time in a cold bar with a menu the man snatched our drinks of us & very aggressively took us to our table, fed our dog a treat without permission & then served us the most horrific dinner I’ve ever seen. Raw, what tased like off food which was completely horrific. He then collected our plates knowing full well I hadn’t touched my meal, asked nothing about anything and went back into the kitchen. Disgusting service! I would warn anyone thinking of going here to think again. It may of had standards many years ago but now its a horrible, unfriendly, cold and horrific experience. My partner actually felt worried for her safety with the creepy man standing within 6 inches of us multiple times. He then had the audacity to take more money of my card the following day without authority for a meal which we complained was completely inedible accompanied by horrendous service. We left the hotel after dinner straight away for the disgusting service & for fear of our own safety being the only two guests in a supposedly full hotel. Completely ruined our weekend & will never return. Trust me. Stay away from Y Branwen Hotel!

Not sure why all the bad reviews of late, the hotel is just as described on the website. Maybe check-in times are restricted and there do seem to be a fair few rules but the location is great, the service is attentive and friendly, food is good and it represents value for money. Nice touches like generous provision of tea & coffee and plenty of dog treats. It's not luxury but it doesn't claim to be! I shall more than happily stay again.

I decided to stay at this hotel because I'd had a lovely experience the last time four years ago. The previous owners had built up a wonderful business at Y Branwen. The place is very different now. The current owner is a very unfriendly man completely devoid of a personality and couldn't care less about his guests. The customer service is nil. Everything is an imposition to him. Fawlty Towers but without the comedy. It is the worst hotel I have had the misfortune to stay at. All the negative reviews on Trip Advisor I agree with. He takes your card details for the deposit over the phone and then 11 days before we were due to arrive he takes the balance without your permission, very unprofessional. It is not a dog friendly hotel in as much as he couldn't care less about the guests dogs. He has two large Huskies which are lovely, but very intimidating to other dogs as they are they are roaming free. They barked and howled at my dog. We telephoned before we arrived and asked about this to which he specifically told us they are kept behind the bar. When we arrived and asked him if he could move them so we could get past to our room. He was very rude and snapped back" it's their home and they go where they want, you knew this when you booked..." Why lie to us before. We definitely wouldn't have gone otherwise. Just a very horrible experience all round. Avoid this awful place. It puts the beautiful Harlech to shame.

Not a very friendly welcome from the owner, my friend's dog feels intimidated If another dog gets close. This was explained when booked. On arrival, the 2 big huskies (although lovely) were wandering around the reception area. I was told when booking that the dogs stayed in the bar area. When asked if he would just move them whilst we checked in he replied "well you knew this was a dog friendly hotel when you booked, the dogs (huskies) Can go where the like it's their home) My friend had to carry his dog past them. Room was nice and clean as was the bathroom. We had arrived late as the traffic was awful, we had phoned pryer to. This and explained. When we came down from putting our bags away. We were asked if we wanted a drink in the bar, we declined and asked if we could go through to dining room. We where then told the restaurant closed at 7.pm and we had 5 minute"s to order our (pre_booked). Meal. ???? Ordered a tagliatelle in a creamy mushroom, courgette and cognac sauce My friend had a beefburger that was so small that you. Wondered if. They had hardly enough meat left to make it, they must have been running low on potatoes too as he only had about 7or8 chips. Getting. Back to my meal----- well what can I say? They must have run out of courgettes too. As I didn't have any. The thing I couldn't work out is why there was no cognac in my meal? it's not as though there isn't a well. Stocked bar. I mean they state to have a well stocked. Bar with hundreds of different "gins" and spirits. Breakfast was nothing special, 1 piece of strange tasting bacon,1 sausage (ok) mushrooms nice, egg good beans in a tiny dolls house size pot. But they tasted nice ( I wonder if their hienz?)
