Torni's location makes it ideal for a visit to Helsinki. Everything can be found within walking distance – if you are willing to leave the hotel in the first place! When hotel Torni opened in 1931 it was the first skyscraper and world class hotel in Finland. Hotel Torni marked the beginning of a new era in Helsinki’s image and atmosphere. The history of Torni is inseparable from the history of Helsinki; artists, journalists, politicians, decision makers and friends of good food have often gathered here since 1931. Helsinki’s renovated historic hotel Torni opened its doors in the spring of 2022. When completed, it was the tallest building in Helsinki and a skyscraper of its time. It is still one of the tallest buildings in Finland. The American Bar, opened in 1960, has always been a unique meeting place in the heart of Helsinki. The magical atmosphere of the cocktail bar and enchanting drinks transport the visitor beyond the reach of everyday life. You can find it at Hotel Torni – enter through the doors on Yrjönkatu and step into the atmosphere of Torni. They draw inspiration from the carefree attitude of American influences and infuse a touch of magic and modernism into the classic cocktail perspective. All the ingredients for their drinks, such as syrups and berry powders, are crafted by hand in the Torni kitchen. Solo Sokos Hotel Torni is an unforgettable hotel experience in the centre of Helsinki, full of art and historical moments. Over the years, many important guests – from royals to movie stars and writers to artists – have enjoyed the bohemian and international atmosphere of Hotel Torni. The room’s elegant expression of form and the light that beautifully filters through the historic building’s windows bring out the spirit of Torni in a special way. Enjoy the surprising details, fall in love with the pieces of art picked from the house art collection and have a good night’s sleep in the fluffy bed. Choose the Art Deco Suite, when you want an unforgettable Helsinki experience. The gorgeous Art Deco suite with its unique details offers the most luxurious hotel experience. In the elegant corner room, you can admire the life in Helsinki’s design districts in peace from your own balcony. A relaxing bath will crown your memorable stay. When staying in the suite, we recommend that you enjoy their incredible breakfast privately in your suite. There is always something interesting to taste in Torni's kitchen, and good wine is always available. Their wonderful breakfast guarantees a perfect start for a workday or holiday, and their personal service (always with the nicest smile) makes their guests return to Torni again and again. The good: Pre stay communication with the hotel was done smoothly and the reception replied quickly to my email. In my email I requested an early check-in as well as a table reservation from the Brasserie restaurant. The receptionist said that the staff would do their best in order to accommodate my early check in request and booked the table from the restaurant for me. When I arrived at the hotel this was true and I was given my room at 1 pm, so 2 hours prior to standard check-in time. The receptionist who checked me in was very kind and tried to speak Swedish with me. She also remembered that I had stayed there before and said welcome back to me. She also said that it would be fine if I checked out an hour later so at 1 pm. The room was upgraded one category up from deluxe to premium deluxe. In addition, there was a greeting card from the General manager welcoming me back to Helsinki and a small box of chocolates which was a nice touch. The Spa at the hotel is absolutely fabulous and it’s a nice place to relax after a busy day. Always worth the visit. The receptionist who checked me out was very kind and remembered to welcome me back again. The bad: Overall, I had a very good stay here. There weren’t any major flaws during my stay, but there were some mistakes done by the restaurant Brasserie kitchen in my food order. However, the restaurant waiters were very kind and apologetic. They even offered me a complimentary salad while I waited for my dinner order to get corrected.

On an upper floor of the building with the sign City Forum Hostel above its building entrance, it was an ok 3-night stay at this place in an 8-bed dorm room (with a nice addition of a small two-shelf piece in my bed) with also a spacious ”common room” (with long comfortable sofa chairs & also some nice-sized tables). So yes, with the place itself just an average one, the best part of the stay here I would say is its proximity to ”all the essentials”: for sightseeing with just about a 10-minute walk to the ”downtown waterfront” where to visit are the city's ”premier sites” (Helsinki Cathedral, Uspenski Cathedral, SkyWheel Helsinki & the tent-market) and yes where there's also the ferry dock to the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress; for shopping with just about a 5-minute walk to the two big shopping malls (Stockmann just across the main street and Forum to the left on the main street without crossing it); and for food with really quite a number of places to eat right around here (including the two McDonald's in & around the Forum Mall and the ”pretty nice” buffet restaurant called Luckiefun's for Chinese & Japanese food).

Very central location just opposite the famous Stockmann department stall. Easily walkable to many attractions, museums, shopping areas and restaurants. About 10mins walk to Helsinki Central Station which links up to the airport through rail. Our room (triple room) was quite spacious and well-furnished. Hotel also allowed us to place luggage in cabinets that comes with its own key, free of charge, after we checked out.

When we arrived, receptionist was helpful, giving us information what we needed. Visit top floor restaurant make me feel good, thinking how many times I’ve been here, over 20 years, and still it’s nice place relax, take a beer. After evening walks, we go cafeteria restaurant, in street view, enjoy hot, fresh good coffee.( it’s very important to my wife) And also there is quality drinks. Room is very clean, I was hoping big bed, when I made my reservation, and I get that, thankfully I sleep like a baby. Location is super middle of Helsinki, train station, taxi, supermarket, just go out, and you are already there. We definitely come back. Thank you for all, and special thanks for Anna reception.

We arrived late in the evening from Berlin and had next day May Day lunch with our friends in Helsinki city center. The hotel is conveniently located at Helsinki Central Station. So there is easy transportation by train from the airport. Our plane landed at 21:55 and already at 22:50, we entered our hotel room. Trains via Myyrmäki arrive at this side of the station where the hotel is located. We had booked a standard room with my IHG points. Because of my IHG Platinum Elite status, we were upgraded to a top-floor standard room. Previously these rooms were executive rooms with bathrobes and better toiletries. Not anymore. So there has been some downgrade concerning the room equipment. The rooms are not very spacious but practical. The views from the top-floor rooms are great. Breakfast is never included in the point reservations at IHG hotels unless there is a lounge where you have access. At this hotel, breakfast costs 21 euros per person. It is slightly better than the usual Scandic or Sokos Hotel breakfast in Finland. So maybe it is worth the price.

Overall really nice and centrally located hotel. Close to the main railway station. All floors have different themes related to Finnish nature (Winter storm, Midsummer, Fairytale forest, Sisu, Tranquility) and the front desk let us choose between a couple of themes. We weren't sure what they were going to be like, but chose Fairytale forest, which was ok. The room was a bit on the small side and with a view to an inner courtyard - however this was to be expected with the room type. The room was really quiet, which was a bonus in the middle of the city! Breakfast was nice, mostly European style with breads etc. Would definitely recommend the hotel for the central location and Finnish style, if you want to experience that.
