Holiday Inn Express Richmond - Midtown

This hotel gets a mixed review from me, for sure. First of all, this is an older property that has likely been renovated many times over the years. As such, the layout befits an older property, and it doesn't always line up with modern expectations, such as stairs' going directly outside rather than to the lobby. However, that can't really be changed too much without tearing down the facility and building a new one, so I feel as though it would be unfair to ding them over that. Similarly, the elevators were being renovated while we were staying there, and this limited the elevators' capacity, as only one (of two total) was available during our stay. This is a temporary inconvenience and necessary work, so I'm giving them a bye on that work. As far as our room went, I took no issue with it. It was clean, it had adequate lighting, and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast service was about what you would expect for a Holiday Inn Express. Nothing too fancy, but not terrible, either. My only complaint was that the warming units that the food sat in continuously made contact with the sneeze guard, which made for a frustrating experience (feeling like you need three hands to serve yourself). That could probably be remedied easily enough if someone cared enough to do it. The parking and access situation, however, was unacceptable. The parking lot is on the back side of the building. This stems from the property's being very old, so I'm not willing to ding them for that on its own, as there is an entrance to the lobby on the parking lot side. However, I will ding them for how access to the parking lot is handled late at night. After 11 PM, the doors facing the parking lot are locked, and there is no access allowed through that door, with all entering and exiting being done via the door next to the front desk. The door to the parking lot also has a sign posted on it when the doors are locked stating as such, and threatening immediate removal from the property should the doors be opened during those hours. That means that in order to access the lot, you have to walk completely around the outside of the building. To add insult to injury, there is a card access box that allows access to be limited to only registered guests, but the doors are locked in such a way as to bypass the card access system. The staff said that this was due to a problem with homeless trying to sleep in the hotel's lobby, but inconveniencing paying guests is no way to do it. All in all, I suppose that this isn't a bad place based on the price and the location, but I'm not inclined to stay again, as the inconveniences outweighed the positives.
Courtyard Richmond West

The front desk staff and bistro staff were amazing - helpful, courteous, and quick! Now...onto the hotel itself: This place is NOT up to Marriott standards - I cannot and will not believe it is. Yes the lobby seems updated and modern, but the rest of this hotel is definitely screaming ”1990”. This must've been one of the original Courtyard concepts back in the day OR was an old hotel they bought and slapped a Courtyard sign out front. Rooms are small, dated furniture, and make shift layout (TV to the side of the bed - not in front). This place is a maze...all jokes aside. There is no main lobby elevator/access to the 2nd or 3rd floors. No....you have to walk all the way down a very long hallway, then turn left and walk some more down another hallway, until you come up on the elevator!?! The amount of hotel guests I ran into who were lost (myself included) trying to find the elevator from the lobby and vice versa, should be a clear sign this layout is awful. Room was comfy and quiet (mine faced the rear parking lot) and I had enough towels and all for a 2 day stay for work. Did have a frig - but NO microwave. Last complaint - breakfast. Isn't Marriott membership supposed to give free breakfast? I got a basic (but really tasty) breakfast + Pelligrino = $23???
Comfort Suites at Virginia Center Commons

First, I will say that we traveled through several states and stayed at two other Comfort Suites over a period of 10 days. I had been told that as a Choice member that I could request a late check out. I asked for a 2:00 PM check out but was told no by the night clerk. I had planned to ask again in the morning, but we overslept. Robert came banging on our door at 11:35 AM and was quite rude. He told me that if we were not out of the room by 12:00 PM that I would be charged another night. We had a toddler with us, so it was very stressful for him to demand that we vacate in such a short time. I think he could have allowed us another 10-15 minutes, but he was quite nasty. We scrambled and packed up in the short time and vacated the room at 11:58 PM. The other Comfort Suites we stayed at in SC, and VA Beach treated us very well and explained their policies upfront so there would not be any misunderstanding. I will not stay at this Comfort Suites again (I have family in the area). It was not as nice as the other Comfort Suites in SC and VA Beach.
Courtyard Richmond Northwest/Short Pump

We thought that they had renovated the hotel, but they only did certain updates. We had to switch 2 times until 3rd time found a room that the toilet didnt leak on the floor. Bathroom tubs need update. More lights and better tub grip than rubber mat that is not sanitary. The tables & dressers need an update, there were pen marks, scuff marks. A good refresh job.
Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Richmond West at I-64, VA

Traveling through Richmond and this place was listed on the highway, we figured it would be perfect. It wasn't actually on the highway - but close enough. No connecting rooms available - so we all had to squish into a suite (family of 5) There were enough beds but it just felt cramped. The hotel needs an update. The pool was closed - under maintenance - fine by us, but if you want a pool don't go here. The vibe was just old and a bit creepy. Hard to describe, the couch was material and pleather - really old feeling. I needed another shower after staying here. The TV didn't work well - very few channels. Breakfast was fine - nothing special. Checkout was at noon which we loved because we liked having a lazy morning. So just a Meh hotel. served it's purpose but wouldn't recommend as a must stay!
