Such a shame that a beautiful building needs such a huge injection of cash to bring it up to a decent standard.Requested breakfast prior to arrival to find they wouldn't do it. Rooms smelt, handrail was so filthy I didn't touch it, hotel was very tired and glass was broken, doors damaged, toilets closed, doors propped with place mats. The whole thing was grubby and awful but could be so good. I like to use private hotels rather than chains but paid excessively on this occasion.

Property was convenient for an overnight stay prior to golfing at a nearby golf club the next morning

For us, it was convenient. Walk around the Bowl and a few pints after and a night stop en route to IOW. But wow, is this place shabby and tired. Check in was confused when we paid, they claimed we hadn't. Really dated decor in the room, wall paper peeling and awful damp patch in corner. Very mouldy bathroom ceiling, leaking shower screen, soap dispenser covered in rust from the holder it's attached to, I could go on. We are at the hotel too, every bar the salad was microwaved and half a dozen chips to go with ham and egg. AVOID this place. It's really dirty, so unloved by the owners and limp food.

Without doubt the worst "Hotel" it has been my displeasure to stay at. Absolutely everywhere is filthy  and disgusting. From the communal carpets covered in stains of God only knows. Skirting boards with loads of chips showing the wood, holes filled with filler and looking like they've not been painted for ages along with walls and the ceilings that look like they've not been painted in decades. This place should be condemned as unfit for habitation. The room I stayed in, the shower has obviously not been cleaned for months given the amount of mould on the bottom of the door and the door jam on the frame. The room had one light switch for the lights in the room so you could not have the bedside lights on with the main light for some reason. The bedroom carpet again was covered in stains, the whole place is disgusting. Of the two shelves in the 'ensuite', one is missing with loose brackets hanging on the wall and the other has one of the brackets held on by a wing and a prayer leaving it both unstable and unable to support anything placed on it. The decor and fittings are circa 1980/90's which I suspect is the last time any money was spent on the place.

From the outside the venue looks amazing, you walk through a great restaurant to find a really outdated hotel. Lots of stains on carpet, curtains, etc and some black mould in the bathroom! It was comfortable and the doors locked so it was win in that department

The hotel is 25 feet away from a brand shiny new building site that starts the heavy machinery at 745 every day and goes until 5pm. Bearing in mind thus will ve goi g on fir the next rwo years or so, so if you want peace and quiet i suggest you pitch a tent by the m25. Also there is am amazing green emergency light in each room which is lovely if you like broad daylight in the middle of the night. And when i say daylight you could read a book by the light this thing kicks out. Which makes it amazing to sleep when combined with the two paper rhin pillows provided. Lastly not to mention the doors slamming every morning from 6am onwards when the contractors all go to work. On the whole the bedt £200 ive spent on four nights of sleep deprivation 👌

We were eating in the Hound and Heather but used the loos which appear to be part of the hotel. Ladies loo. No lock on cubicle door, I blanched my fingers when I washed my hands because the water was dangerously hot. Hand dryer not working, and no paper towels available. I gather that the gents was also somewhat lacking. Some remedial work is definitely overdue.
